Best SatNav for the TyTn II / Vario III

I have been a TomTom user for the past 4 years from Navigator 2, 3 and then 5.

But now I have a MDA Vario III and I am looking for a new sat nav program to run on it.

What are the recommendations of the group?

Hi vex, I use TomTom 6 and Co Pilot 7 which are probably the most highly rated of the GPS applications, but of the two I still prefer TomTom to be honest for total ease of use and accuracy. We have a review on Co Pilot 7 here if you haven't already seen it, and we have a review of TomTom coming up in the near future, I hope that helps.

I'm with Boz.

My new device came with CPL7 but I am a regular user of TT6 and, although CPL7 has its plus points, I think I still prefer TT6.

Thats very interesting to hear tonybro.

I like TT, just with the oportunity to switch I thought I would look around.

Any good (cheap) places to buy from? I might have a look to see what discounts I can get through Quidco.

Believe it or not TomTom themselves have the best prices for the genuine product have a look here . Anything you may find on Ebay or similar for a better price is not going to be the real deal.

Re: Best SatNav for the TyTn II / Vario III

As Boz says- watch out for cheap deals on Ebay- they are usually pirated copies, or users taking advantage of selling their 'spare' activation, which of course leaves you up the creek if you do a ROM update, or change your device.

I've used all the 'big 3'- TomTom, CPL and iGO2006. I've just completed a review of iGO, which is on the Subscribers part of our site till next week, then goes into the public reviews.

iGO is by far and away my favourite, with TTN next and CPL third. The problem with iGO at present is that it can't be installed on MicroSD devices. If you can wait till late Spring, iGO 2008 will be coming, which looks stunning, and is MicroSD compatible.

Thanks Neilm.

Had a look at iGo and it does look stunning. How long do I have to wait for 08?, any beta releases kicking for review.

Also do you know if it will take speed camera data bases from the likes of PocketGPSworld?

Re: Best SatNav for the TyTn II / Vario III

No idea on release for iGO 2008 and nothing on beta releases (I put in a request some while ago, but not even a response )

As far as I know, it doesn't have the ability to import PGPSW databases, although there are reports of a successful import into iGO 2006 using a 3rd party program. However, iGO uses the POIWarner database which costs €19 per year, and seems pretty accurate. Also, you can add/remove/modify cameras, and even modify details such as speed, type and direction.

Seems like you people haven't heard of Route 66 yet. (www.66.com)

If you ask my opinion, most (if not all ?) GPS navigation software packages are basically the same in terms of functionality and features (except for the minor differences, of course).
I prefer Route 66 because I like how it looks and works. And it has a free traffic updates feature (try to beat that, TomTom), it's available in the countries that offer traffic info through TMC/GPRS.

Nice one > Evil E. < You're right, Route66 is available and I do know of people that use it.
