Is there a start up menu in WM6?

I have probably overlooked something rather obvious here, but I can't find the programme which allows you to control which programmes start up automatically when you switch on (similar to what you can do with windows start up). Both Worldmate and Tomtom 6 are starting up, even when I don't need them and so I would like to stop this happening. Any suggestions anyone?

Hi saki, there's no program as such, if you point your file explorer of choice to /windows/startup, you'll find icons or links in there. This is where your programs are being started from. Simply delete the ones you don't want to automatically start...

If your not sure about something that's in the startup folder, give us a shout, and hopefully we can tell you what it's for!

Saki, be careful. There are some things in that folder that absolutely must be there or your device won't work properly. Only remove items which you know have been added when you installed programs.

hi cyclist,

thanks for the tip. I had a look at the folder this afternoon and my natural cautiousness took over, so I ended up giving it a miss and didn't delete anything. The start up thing is only a minor inconvenience anyway, so I am not too bothered by it.

Re: Is there a start up menu in WM6?

The TomTom starting may have another cause, and if so is very easy to fix!

The TomTom installation files reside in a folder called '2577' on the Storage Card. Once installed, this folder prompts the program to run after a soft reset, or a card insertion. If you rename that folder to anything else (we tend to call it '2577_ttn' ) it will no longer autorun.

Should you need to reinstall TTN, or wish to make it autorun again, then rename the folder back to its original name.

Not in mine there aren't. I've removed everything from it and it's fine. Just means things like voice dialling and outlook take a little longer to boot.

Must be a WM6 change then, as I've got one of my older devices into a state where I had to hard reset it by deleting items from start up.

Thanks a zillion neil! It worked wonderfully.

It shows again what a great site this is. At some point I ought to make a list of the very useful tips I have got from contributors on here
