Screen brightness & GPS issues on TyTn2

Hi everyone, this is my first post, be gentle with me. I just upgraded to a TyTn2 on Orange, having used the TyTn1 and liked it apart from appalling battery life.

I have two concerns so far with the TyTn2:

1) How do I get the screen to stop slipping into near darkness every 30 secs or so, however much I may jab away with the stylus, opening programes, writing emails etc? In desperation I have adjusted the backlight settings to be always on but no luck.

2) I have used Quick GPS but there doesn't seem to be any on board map software - is that right? I downloaded Google maps but it just doesn't respond when I hit My Location.

Any advice on both these issues would be gratefully received. If these issues are addressed elsewhere in the forum please point me in the right direction - I haven't found anything so far.

Yours,
Hugh

Hi HughW, and welcome,

If you go to settings then click the system tab and choose the power icon in the advanced settings in there you should be able to rectify the dark screen troubles.

As for the gps problems i have not had that trouble myself but will have a look around in bit.

In Google maps, don't use My Location. Open the menu on the right hand soft key (can't remember what it's called) and select the 'Use GPS' option. Until you do this Google maps won't try to connect to your GPS, it tries to guesstimate your location from cell towers.

Re: Screen brightness & GPS issues on TyTn2

Thank you Cyclist, I have cracked the GPS thing.

Thanks Jonston411... let me be more specific about the screen darkness: the screen is fine when I unlock and navigate around the device but when I'm on a call the screen times out after about 30secs making use of the onscreen kepyad impossible, whatever I tap. And if I get through a call unscathed, on hanging up the screen goes dark and won't 'lighten up' unless I do battle with the power button and go through unlocking procedure. I have set backlight and battery power so that this sort of lights out shouldn't happen but no luck. Does anyone else have this problem or does it sound like an isolated fault?

Yours, Hugh

Re: Screen brightness & GPS issues on TyTn2

Morning Hugh,

That is odd. Could you list which software you have installed (if any) just to check if any of them may influence it.

Sounds like you've already done this but just in case:-

in the settings/system/power if you click on menu then backlight there are three tabs at the bottom. Change the settings in these and see if there is a change.

edit: just reread first post and you did already do this. Think it's time for some caffeine.
