Tytn II now a paperwieght
Ive just cracked the screen on my 1 month old Tytn II. It was in my pocket while I was helping my sister move house (stupid me I know) and have obviously knocked it on something.
Ive done some looking at getting the LCD replaced. A company called SPS Mobile based in London are advertising on Ebay £65 all in with special delivery back to me. There is also another company called Apex laptops that have their own website and they replace LCD's aswell.
Has anyone ever had experience or knowledge of either of these companies?
Has anyon tried replacing the LCD themselves? How easy/hard is it?
Thanks in advance all.

Re: Tytn II now a paperwieght
I've replaced a couple of screens on PDA's, most recently an S620 a couple of weeks ago. If you can find a good guide (there are several on xda-devs I believe), have the right tools and take your time it isn't that hard.
That said, have you investigated the home insurance route? DO you have any other cover?

Re: Tytn II now a paperwieght
Home insurance isnt a route I can go down at the moment.
Ive never opened a PDA before, but my friend has bought the tools to do it. Is it worth the saving over having it done for you?

Re: Tytn II now a paperwieght
It's all about risk management really. If you're good at that sort of thing then it might be worth saving a few quid. If not, is it worth the risk of doing more damage?

Don't forget that you will be voiding the warranty doing it yourself as soon as you open it up, might be worth a quote for repair from HTC?

The HTC repair will be £75 + parts if memory serves correctly. Bearing in mind HTC will also charge top dollar for the parts I'd be surprised if you see any change out of £200 as the screens are not cheap. Realistically you can get a used Kaiser on Ebay for that.

I didn't realise HTC repairs were that expensive!

Re: Tytn II now a paperwieght
Why so expensive when it can be done so cheaply by others?
I would imagine that the LCD is the same as used in all or most 2.8" HTC phones.
Im waiting till 10.30 to ring this SPS Mobile down in London as their feedback rating is 100% from over 1400. Gonna give Apex a call aswell.
Just called my local independant repairer and he wants about £100 with a 7 to 8 day turn around as he has to order the screen in from Hong Kong, so I aint going that route.

Re: Tytn II now a paperwieght
I can personally recommend SPS Mobiles as I have used them to replace a XDA-Exec screen - cheap (comparitively) and very quick turnaround.
