Hi,

If I backup the device to a memory card then put a HTC ROM on the handset, then restore the memory card, will the new ROM remain?

Do you recommend I re-install apps on the new ROM rather than restoring from a backup?

I can't afford to lose my contact list!!! * argh *

I suggest you don't restore the apps just the data (contacts etc). It's what I do if I do a ROM upgrade and am not going to re-sync with Outlook/Exchange server.

The Outlook route is a good choice to start with as it gives you another point to store your contacts and you can back up the Outlook file on the PC too - double protection!
