I used a combination of Audacity (for file editing) and RazorLame (for output to MP3 format) for creating MP3 ringtones on my PC, then upload them using Mobile Device Center on Vista....

Yep, that is another way to go, Audacity is a great app very easy to find the gaps between tracks and cut points.
