1) Make sure you have entered the device name you want to use for Bluetooth in Start-Settings-About-DeviceID. I recommend NOT using the default, as problems can arise if there is another device around with the same default name.
2) Start-Settings-Connections-Bluetooth-Mode
Tick turn on Bluetooth, and tick Make this device discoverable to other devices
3) On the device you are connecting to turn on Bluetooth and make that device discoverable.
4) In Start-Settings-Connections-Bluetooth-Devices tap Add new device and wait while it searches. When the search completes, tap the name of the device you want to connect to. Tap the right soft key 'Next'.
5) Enter a passcode (4 digits I think) and tap next. The other device will ask whether to add your Polaris to the device list, say yes. Now enter the same passcode on the other device.
6) On your Polaris you should now see a list of services from the other device, which may be blank, but don't worry. Tap the right soft key 'Finish'. The display returns to the Devices tab which now shows the other device. These steps have set up the pairing, and apart from turning Bluetooth on, don't have to be repeated.
7) In Start-Settings-Connections-Bluetooth-FTP tab (maybe off screen to the left) tick Enable File Sharing, and set the shared folder if you want to. Tap OK at top right. Do the equivalent on the other device.
Now you should be able to send and receive files using Beam File in File explorer. Using Resco Explorer is nicer though.
I've used the above for pairing with devices that I'll be connecting to alot and don't want the bother of authorising (sp?) them constantly, but for the ocasional file transfer between random phones I've found that I don't need to do all of the above.

I only need to check the following:

1) That "Incomming Beams" tick box is ticked
2) Bluetooth is turned on (obviously)
3) "Make this device visable to other devices" tick box is ticked
4) Check that "Timeout" tab is set to a reasonable time
5) Untick the tick box for "passkey required" in the security tab.

After doing the above once, I only need to repeat 2 and 3 for any BT phone file transfers
