Colour blind
I am totally confused. When looking at the original pics of the Orbit 2 it sometimes seemed to have a black front and at other times, silver. I came to the conclusion that there was only one scheme and it was just a trick of the light and reflections that sometimes made it look different. But...
I now see that Carphonewarehouse are specifying Orbit 2 Black on their website and even O2 say that they currently supply black phones. What I cannot get out of either is whether there is any other colour. I know there are some for sale elsewhere whose seller's claim to be silver, but is that just their interpretation?
Can anyone confirm what the truth is here? Are there 2 variants, or does the silvery front actually appear so black in some instance that the 2 major sales organisations call it black?
????

Re: Colour blind
Ha ha. Yeah, it's impossible to describe the colour of that surround. It's actually smokey-mirrored but behind a sheet of glass so, really, it refelcts what colours are around it. That's why it looks different in different pics.
The official shots with studio lighting are particularly unrepresentative as it looks very bright.

Hi Ken, it may help you to get a better idea of the Orbit 2 if you have a look at the unboxing video we have here .

Re: Colour blind
I'm not trying to find out what it looks like, rather to establish whether there are indeed 2 different versions. If there are, then I'll need to investigate the differences further, otherwise, no need.
Are there 2 versions, or just 1?

Re: Colour blind
Only one version of the Orbit 2. There is another device, called the HTC Touch Cruise which is functionally identical to the Orbit II and very similar in design but has slightly more rounded edges etc.
But no, there is only one Orbit 2.

So the pictures of the Orbit 2 on both CPW and O2 sites are actually the same phone, although they look distinctly black and silver respectively?
They do both describe them as black. In particular it's the button which is convincingly different, one black, one silver, yet you're saying it is in reality quite silver?

Re: Colour blind
The button panel is 'satin steel' . the action button is chrome with a black rubberised spinner, and the screen surround is a sort of mirrored dark grey finish. As this is a 'Touch' screen, the whole screen and bezel are flush and topped with a highly reflective transparent top layer.
The main casing is matt black, but there is a chromed strip separating the front and back panels, including the top/side buttons and the connections sockets, and a chromed bezel around the camera.

I know exactly what you mean.
When I first came across this device back in November/December, the pictures I saw gave the surround a piano black appearance - similar to Samsung palsma screens.
I thought this really looked good.
As more pictures appeared I started to get disappointed as the device didn't seem to look as good.
When I eventually got the device, it wasn't as bad as I thought and has quite grown on me now.
If you are still un-sure, may be worth visiting your nearest O2 store.
