O2 calendar on start menu

I want to remove O2 from the start menu (clicking on it takes you to 'get settings' STK service).

If I go to 'settings', 'menus' and try to remove O2, I get a message which says 'Cannot move that item'.

Just below it is an identical O2 entry which can be selected/deselected.

Any ideas? I've tried soft reset to no avail....

Re: Can't remove 'O2' from start menu

It can definitely be removed, because I don't have it in my Orbit 2 start menu.

Instead of using settings, do the work in a File manager program. It may be that you will need to use a third party File Explorer to do this, like Resco, or it may work with the built in one. Make sure whatever program you are using it is set to view all files. View the contents of folder Windows-Start Menu. This is where the links that create the menu short cuts live. If there are two for O2, then delete one of them. I suspect there may actually be only one though. Tap and hold the O2 item, select Cut. Open the Programs folder and paste the link. Now you should be able to move whatever item you would like on the Start Menu up from Programs to Start Menu.
For some reason my gut feel says do this on the device, not trying to use the browse option on your PC while connected. I can't give you a reason for that though, just that I think the software may try to be ultra clever and prevent you doing what you want.

Re: Can't remove 'O2' from start menu

Thanks Cyclist - that worked...

Now trying to find out why upcoming appointments are not showing on the today screen despite 'O2 calendar' being selected in 'Settings'/'Today'/'Items'. (In Windows/StartUp I've got 'O2 custom', 'PKG', 'poutlook' and 'sddaemon' listed).

Any ideas?

There is an ongoing bug with O2 Calendar- that may be the issue for you?

Re: Can't remove 'O2' from start menu

In the Settings/Today/Items, what exactly is the wording for the item we are discussing? I've got the stock O2 Orbit 2, with the O2 customisations run, and my list contains only 'Calendar', which is a general PPC item, not O2 specific. It's well known that for most people that Calendar plugin is pathetic, as it only shows the next appointment.
Have you got any appointments for today? If not, create a fake. Does that show up?

I'm not clear what the problem is here. Are you saying that:
1) O2 calendar does not show up on your Today screen at all, or
2) O2 calendar is there but does not show any appointments?

Re: Can't remove 'O2' from start menu

'O2 calendar' is exact wording for this item (there is no other non-O2 calendar to select in the items list)
Yes - I've got appointments for today and have had pop-ups 15 mins prior to notify me.
Nothing shows on screen at all - nothing to suggest 'O2 calendar' has been selected.

In that case, I'm not going to be able to help much, as I don' t have that item. One thing I can do though is change the title of this thread to its new subject.

I'm wondering where O2 Calendar has come from on your device, or alternatively how I got rid of it. Do you have an O2 Orbit or an HTC Touch Cruise? Did you let the O2 customisations run when you first started up the device?

It's part of the O2 Today applet and is configured by the O2 Tray icon.

@Dash: I can confirm that the O2 Calendar doesn't display at all for me either- as I mentioned above, it is a known bug. You need to use the default Calendar item in Today settings, or a 3rd party calendar display.

Re: O2 calendar on start menu

I have an Orbit 2.

No default calendar option in today - only 'O2 calendar'

I guess I'll have to download SpB Diary or something similar...

At least I know it's not only me that's got an issue with O2 Calendar.

Re: O2 calendar on start menu

My Orbit 2 does exactly the same as yours.
First step is to untick the calendar option in Options in the O2 thingie in the tray. Then you will find that the default calender option appears in the Today settings. That probably will not be enough information for you.
There are quite a few calendar plugins for the Today screen; as you say Spb Diary is one with a lot of features. I like TodayAgenda which you can find here; it is donation ware.
