Dialing a telephone number

On the virtual telephone keypad, once you have entered the telephone number you wish to dial what do you press thereafter?

At the moment, I am pressing the green telephone key because there does not seem to be a similar key on the virtual keypad.

Is this correct or am I going blind?

Obviously this only refers to telephone numbers that are not stored in your address book.

Re: Dialing a telephone number

You are right! There isn't a screen button for a voice call You can use the Video Call button (middle of the 3 to the right of the screen) and if you are calling a non-video number you'll get a message asking if you want to place a voice call, but it's a long way round to acheive.

You can also go to Menu/Options/Smart Dialling Options and tick the 'Enable Double Click' box- if done, any number you enter into the screen can be 'double clicked' with finger or stylus to place the call.

That's different.

Was there any reason why this was implemented? Save on screen space?

Re: Dialing a telephone number

Knowing O2, they probably didn't test it with 3G, so assumed the button was the normal dialling button

Must admit I didn't notice that one when testing the Orbit2- I always use the hardware button anyway

Re: Dialing a telephone number

It does seem strange for them to omit this yet have a button for video calls which must make up a tiny amount of calls made.

It's not just O2, the standard HTC ROM is the same. I must admit, given that there is a hardware call button, i'd rather they used to screen to make available other options rather than repeating controls.

It seems like an entirely sensible decision to me.

I would agree with you but why have they put a physical Windows button when all Windows OS's have one on the Start bar?

I think it was just poorly thought out.

Not all do. I have a couple of apps (Memory Map for one) that run full-screen and so do not have access to the Windows menu. The same goes for CPL, TomTom and quite a few others.
