Re: Phone Signal Problem on Standby

Nah - this is my second device!!

Think I will have to persevere. I could not even send texts earlier!?

Now I did th old PC trick - turn it off, turn it on- and the SMS went. strange eh?

Re: Phone Signal Problem on Standby

Just to be clear, although I think the signal overall is poor the real problem that I need to solve is that in good signal areas the reception disappears if the phone is in standby. When I switch it on again I can see the dots while it searches and restablishes reception. This means that I don't get calls or texts when in standby.

I will try the suggestions offered of testing the sim in my Orbit 1 and hard resetting the Orbit 2.

btw. how do I do a hard reset? The manual doesn't seem to have been updated from the Orbit 1. The instruction is:

To perform a hard reset
1. Press and hold the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET EXPLORER buttons, and at the same time, use the stylus to press the RESET button at the bottom of your device.
2. Release the RESET button, but continue pressing the GPS/MESSAGING and INTERNET
EXPLORER buttons until you see this message on the screen:
3. Release the buttons, and then press SEND on your device to perform the hard reset, or press any other button to cancel the reset.

I don't have MESSAGING or EXPLORER buttons on my Orbit 2.

Will using the Clear Storage option do the same thing?

Peter

Re: Phone Signal Problem on Standby

Hi again Peter, they mean the bottom two buttons, the Windows and ok buttons. Yes clear storage will do the same thing.

Re: Phone Signal Problem on Standby

I have done a hard reset on the Phone and there is no improvement in the situation. The loss of signal on standby continues.

I have tried the SIM in my Orbit 1 and it works perfectly.

I am concluding that it is a hardware problem and am expecting a replacement phone today. I'll let you know if that resolves the problem.

Thanks for your help and advice.

Peter

Re: Phone Signal Problem on Standby

It does seem to be a hardware problem then, lets hope the replacement is ok.

O2 failed to deliver the replacement on Friday. Apparently it will be Tuesday now. P.

Re: Phone Signal Problem on Standby

The new Orbit 2 was delivered yesterday and is now set up and in operation. The standby problem doesn't occur on the new phone so it must have been a hardware problem. The signal strength is better and the battery lasts at least twice as long. From this I deduce that it must have been some kind of power leak that was causing a reception problem.

Thanks everyone for your help.
