Smile Software preferences for Orbit 2

Hi all, having recieved my lovely shiny and fingerprint magnet orbit 2 I set about trying all of the inbuilt programs and while they all work OK (apart from Co-pilot which is superb) I'm sure there must be enhancements to these.
Now I've always been a palm user until this device and have used Agendus as my primary contact/diary app and used various skinning programs to enhance the appearance, I have very limited knowledge of PPC software so would be very grateful for peoples recommendations and advice.

I would like to try the following:
  • An easy to use contact manager, ideally with finger control as opposed to stylus.
  • A good diary application
  • Something to enhance the overall appearance, I like cool
  • A replacement for the awfully bland alarm clock
  • Anything that will make my device easier to use or just cooler achieving it
Thank you in advance for any recommendations.

Re: Software preferences for Orbit 2

Well, these are all a matter of personal preference, but for myself, I have installed the following:

Browser: Opera Mini 4 (fast, low data requirements, cool)
PIM: AgendaOne (I can do everything without using the stylus, it's quick & easy - nice graphics
Screen & Task Manager: HTC Home & Task Manager
Vito SMS Chat: Chat style texting
Vito Funcontact: (Just trying this so far, but like it)
Live Search:
Memmaid: for cleaning up
Mobipocket Reader
Ereader
Pocket Breeze (Control PIM from Today screen)
S-Tools: More cleaning up and managing registry etc
Spb Backup: No need to explain!
Spb Finance: In the vague hope that more cash will materialise in my account!
Spb Wallet: To keep those reg codes/passwords etc handy
TouchPal: Best text entry ever invented (IMHO)
SipChange: So that Touchpal works from Soft reset

That's mine (so far)

Re: Software preferences for Orbit 2

I'll wade in with iLauncher and PocketBreeze, both from SBSH.net

Spb Backup too
PhoneAlarm for automated profile switching and control
Spb GPRS monitor to make sure I keep a tab on data usage
TCPMP for media (audio and video)
E-wallet for secure wallet functions
eReader Pro for e-books
TomTom6 instead of CoPilot
Resco Explorer as a replacement for limited in-built File Manager
FlexMail from WebIS for e-mail
Pocket Informant from WebIS - PIM replacement

I think that's enough to be investigating!

I have the Kaiser, but hope you'll find the following helpful:

For the contact manager, try Spb Mobile Shell.
Diary - try Spb Diary
Enhance the overall appearance - try Mobile Shell and/or Pocket Plus
Alarm clock - Spb Time
Device easier to use - Pocket Plus and Mobile Shell will help make your device considerably finger friendly!

Also consider applications for file explorer/registry editing (if required) such as Resco Explorer (a very popular app) or another alternative is the one I use, a freeware app called Total Commander.

These are, of course, personal recommendations - and remember that there are other apps out there. The best advice I can give, is try before you buy!!

Re: Software preferences for Orbit 2

Totally agree with Firstbuddha on this one, no reputable sofware developer would expect you to buy unless you try the application out thoroughly first on your device. Most give a fully featured try out for at least 7 days. Then you can buy with confidence as you know the software suits you.

Re: Software preferences for Orbit 2

For a very cool today screen, try Ultimate Launcher: more info, screenshots and links in this thread (Ultimate Launcher with Today Agenda and Samsung Clock).

Re: Software preferences for Orbit 2

For me as a contact Agenda manager I recommend WebIS PocketInformant.

Re: Software preferences for Orbit 2

I have an Orbit 2 and use SPB Pocket Plus to give big tabs on the today screen and big icons which are finger friendly - you can have 6 tabs and 12 large icons on each for your regular use programs.

I use 1 of the tabs for SPB Pocket Breeze, which is a pretty good Diary and Contacts manager.

The combination of large icons, Orbit scroller wheel and the HTC cube means i can now do about 90%+ using just a finger-tip.

Thumbs up Re: Software preferences for Orbit 2

Following your kind advice I downloaded trials for resco explorer and a few SPB products whick look great. I shall have a good play with them and see what suits.

Cheers
