Argh spares and repairs anyone?

First of all, hey guys im new to the forum but have been checking it out for some weeks now.
Tragically today the worst thing that could happen to my orbit 2 happened... yes I managed to sit on it and crack the screen!! I've tried surfing the net looking for a company that does a replacement part, but to no avail so far- could this be due to the phone being so new? I hadn't got round to taking insurance out on it yet, so thats not a viable option either.
If anyone knows of a decent company that sells replacement parts for the orbit 2 I'd be most obliged.

Thanks in anticipation,

A rather fustrated Rob

Hi Rob and welcome to 4WM

Not good news on your first post.

As the device is new onto the market the chances of finding a screen for it are pretty remote, I would ask O2 if they can fix it for you and get a quote on the price, your options are limited I'm afraid.

Hi Rob and welcome to 4WM

I know exactly how you feel with the cracked screen - I managed to do it to mine 1 month out of warranty and insurance cover.

As Boz says talk to O2 but I would also try out SPS Mobile..
This is the firm who sorted out my Universal (OS XDA-Exec) andyou can read about the service I got from them here.

Hope you get sorted.

Also see if you can find the repair department for HTC. They have a place in the south of England somewhere, try googling HTC Europe. Even they may not be able to help though, as it's an O2 custom housing.

Thanks for the heads up guys.
I'll contact both O2 and SPS and see what the damage to my wallet will be

Re: Argh spares and repairs anyone?

Just another point, did you get any free insurance for 3 months or so, or could you claim on your house contents insurance?

Re: Argh spares and repairs anyone?

Unfortunately no free insurance. I got my contract online and those fellas just try there damndest not to give you something for nothing if they don't have too :P
As for contents insurance thats a bit of a sore issue : I'm moving out in a month and was going to get a new insurance deal with phone cover.... unfortunately Sods law decided to smite me in the mean time!
Ah well, in true sessami street style: "today we learnt don't put you phone in your back pocket ever"

Re: Argh spares and repairs anyone?

Have found details of another company Turnonyourmobile which was supplied by PDAEssentials magazine in response to a ROM Upgrade failure question. But they seem to do everything.

Interestingly they (according to the mag) provide a ROM Upgrade recovery service from about £20 +vat with a 24/48 hr turn around. (I will add it to the hardware repair post)

Re: Argh spares and repairs anyone?

Just a quick update:
Spoke to o2 customer services who said they can't do anything at all! Apparently my only chance is to go to an o2 shop and be extra nice to the salesperson and see if they can help. (Havent managed to get down there yet)
As for the repairing, the companies are not sure what part number the orbit II's screen is and therefore can't check on getting it sourced. They've asked me to either pull mine apart and check or send it to them and they'll see what they can do!
So my next question is: has anyone taken theirs apart? or has anyone seen an online guide? Obviously it'd be handier if someones done it already, as I know a lot of peole like to do it

Cheers.
