Sprite Backup hangs and needs soft reset

Now my Orbit 2 is up and running and set up how I like it. Contacts, calendar, sync over MS Exchange I want to back it up. Loaded up the provided Sprite back up via the PC and activesync. Ran it with default settings into a folder on the card (I created a new folder called BackUps instead of using the root on the card). It just hangs when stating stopping running programs or when creating self loader header. The counter counts to maybe 21-25 secs and then just hangs and needs soft reset. I have left it for 30 mins on power and still no progress.

Anyone else tried to back up.

Other things installed are HTC Home, Co Pilot, GPRS monitor, and google maps.

Re: Sprite Backup hangs and needs soft reset

Hi Jon, I have successfully backed up with Sprite after running a WM 6.1 cooked rom for a while on my Orbit 2 and reverting back to the standard O2 fare, I had no problems at all backing up to the storage card and it saved me lots of time customising my device to it's former glory. The problem must lie in backing up to a folder, why not back up straight to the storage card then place the back up into a folder after completion.

Don't think that's the problem. I use Sprite on my Orbit 2 on the stock O2 Rom, and I backup into a folder named Backup which is inside another folder named Device.
What about the storage card itself? Can the device write to it from other apps? Can you try another card?

Re: Sprite Backup hangs and needs soft reset

Do you have any background processes running ?

It may be that Sprite is unable to terminate the process prior to the backup. You may need to try stopping all processes or try a Safe Mode program

8GB sandisk. No problem writing to it and copying files to and from storage memory. Will try to use root of card tonight.

There are no programs running I shut them down first even active sync that doesnpt appear in the O2 running programs list.

What is Safe mode program and where will I find it? Will google it.

Hi Jon. SPB Pocket Plus has a safe mode and is generally very good.

Re: Sprite Backup hangs and needs soft reset

+ to that Sorry Jon, I didn't get around to replying to your question! PockePlus can be downloaded as a free trial, and the settings allow Safe Mode to be configured to give a run request after every soft reset, or if you do 2 soft resets in quick succession.

Of course, doing a backup while in Safe Mode may well just back up the safe state, but at least it may be an indication of whether the process is hanging due to an installed service.

If you don't want to use PocketPlus, then the original Safe Mode application by MonoCube is Here

Re: Sprite Backup hangs and needs soft reset

Jon, if the above suggestions do not get you anywhere then I think you could try this: uninstall Sprite, soft reset, use your device a little (couple of phone calls say) and then reinstall Sprite. I'm not optimistic that this will help, but there is some chance it will, and you have nothing to lose.
