Smile Need more help with my Orbit2

Hi again,
Can anyone give me help regarding my contacts on my Orbit2, I have used sim manager to copy them from my sim to device so I can ad pics etc.
unfortunately it now shows copy's of each contact (one sim, one device) on phones I have had before you can choose which are displayed! can anything be done?

When I receive a message and I have been out of the room for a while there is no indication, if I have the device infront of me it comes out of sleep mode, notifies via pop up and sound, then an led blinks orange for ten minutes.
After that the led goes back to blinking green, which means I don't know I have a message, this means I don't pick up the milk on the way home or pick little Johny up from friends after football, which means very upset Mrs.!!

Any help would be more than welcome, (devorce is too costly so don't suggest it)

Re: Need more help with my Orbit2

You can change the notification for messages in start>settings>personal>sounds and notifications>notifications. There is a cab file available to hide the sim contacts I have attached it, soft reset after installation and the sim contacts will not show.
Attached Files
File Type: email Hide SIM Contacts.cab (1.0 KB, 50 views)

Re: Need more help with my Orbit2

Hi Marky,

There is a hide sim contacts registry key that will get around this:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Phone]
"ShowSIM"=dword:00000001 ->0 to disable, 1 to enable.

How confident are you about using the registry?

Secondly, if you go Start - Settings - Sounds and Notifications - Notifications

Then from the drop down box select New Text Message and you can define whether you get a flash and for how long it stays on for.

Yep, I couldn't remember where the CAB was though. Much easier.

Re: Need more help with my Orbit2

Sorry, I am not up to speed on Registry or CABs, can you instruct me?
I wanted to install third part software like slide 2 lock, weather etc. but was halted as unless its a straight forward .exe file.
I have been thinking perhaps it was a mistake to make the step up from my N95 as I feel out of my depth.

Any info or advice would be very welcome!

Thanks
Mark.

Re: Need more help with my Orbit2

Hey Mark, don't worry, we're here to help!

The cab files are envlosed installer files. You simply copy the file to your device, via active sync or onto an SD card. You then use File Explorer and double tap the file and it will install.

Re: Need more help with my Orbit2

cab files are just as easy to install as sis files. just copy to tbe phone and run.

I've switched from n95 to orbit for a couple weeks now and apart from the camera, I don't miss the nokia at all.

the peeps here are very friendly and helpful

Re: Need more help with my Orbit2

I think I must of missed something, Ive installed the cab file and it looked as if it installed ok did a soft reset but I still have the sim contacts in the contacts window.
Tried going into advanced control in Programs group and set the Phone option. Show Sim Contacts set to no but this stll reverts to yes after soft reset. What have I missed.

Re: Need more help with my Orbit2

Hi rogerb and welcome.

The secret is install the cab file and do not reset, it is one of those exceptions to the rule!
