in all seriousness, when i rang the 02 Retentions Dept to sort a deal for the Orbit 2, the salesman was really trying hard to sell me an iphone instead and I did get the clear impression that they were not selling many of them.

The Orbit 2 does seem to be selling well. Was negotiating a deal with the Carphone Warehouse Loyalty Department and the guy had almost ran out of stock in the time he was waiting to ask his manager to authorise giving me the Orbit 2 handset for free!

It seems fairly well known in financial circles that Apple/O2 are disappointed with iPhone sales but then what did they expect?

UK consumers are not quite the same as US consumers, we are used to subsidised handsets and the fact you have to take a longer than usual (but granted not unheard of) 18 month contract at a minimum of £30 per month then it was always going to be a hard sell!

Especially considering you can buy US imports for a small premium over the UK cost and not have to take out a contract and use your existing SIM!

Added to the fact the iPhone doesn't support any network data speeds beyond Edge is laughable in the 3G/HSDPA world here in UK/Europe.

My wife now uses one but it's an unlocked import - wasn't going to pay through the nose with O2/Apple. Works perfectly and she's happy.
