Practically useless in daylight?

What with (hopefully) brighter days coming on, I don't know you lot are finding the Orbit, but the screen (with the standard screen protector on) is unreadable, if one dare's to attempt to use it outside..

Anybody else finding this... I have to resort to doing a Phantom of the Opera/Dracula impression with my coat, to so much as find the Slide to unlock, never mind using the screen itself..

Cyclist... How on earth you manage I don't know.. Is it simply down to the (rubbish) non UV standard screen protector, for I haven't seen another one available, or are we talking going to a camera shop here?

Inside, it's fine, but I hadn't anticipated having to almost become a recluse, just to use a mobile!

I am not cyclist, I don't think so anyway! but there is some freeware you could try that makes the screen brighter than the norm, you can just map it to a soft key. I have previously used it on WM6 without problem.

Have a look here.

Its just as bad without the screen protector. After much web research into hacks and addons to fix this, i found the easist fix is to simply note and remember that the first "unlock" button is in the bottom left corner of the screen and the second "unlock" button is on the right hand side of the screen , next to the middle of the memory card slot.

I can unlock it first time every time now without being able to see the screen.

Much the same here. I tend to use clear screen protectors in winter, anti-glare in 'summer'. Today was a bright sunny day around Manchester in morning and early afternoon when I was out on my bike, and no I couldn't read the screen. If I'd waited till late afternoon when it started raining and hailing then I could have read the screen outside, but by that time I was in a nice hot bath.

Re: Practically useless in daylight?

I'm afraid this is a 'feature' of the newer screens- not just the flush ones, but the TyTnII as well.

Previous models used a transreflective screen which used ambient light to illuminate the screen as well as the backlight, making them readable in brighter light, as the light could 'trickle' behind the panel. and light it from underneath.

The later screens are simple TFT without transreflection. The published specs on PDADb and HTC themselves actually get this wrong, citing current screen as Transreflective, but there is a suspicion that the first 'T' in TFT is being incorrectly 'translated' to mean Transreflective

Re: Practically useless in daylight?

I must admit I found the Orbit 1 unusable in sunlight over the weekend!

Were you wearing your beer goggles at the time Jim?

Re: Practically useless in daylight?

The bright light problem is one of the reasons that I have started trying slide2unlock. Before although 90% of the time I could hit the 2 button sequence to unlock the phone, it was a bit of a pain.

Might just be me, but I also find that if I use a dark theme then it is alot harder to see the screen than if I use a light theme in sunny conditions.

Re: Practically useless in daylight?

Once the beer goggles where on, I couldn't even make out the buttons, let alone the screen!
