Re: Orbit 2 - One month on

Hi Tim- welcome to 4WM

2 days battery life from any WM or Symbian smartphone is considered to be very good- you can't compare these to normal phones, or non-phone PDA's because of the converged functions which use power even when in standby. Most users get into the habit of charging overnight, or via a USB connection if in an office during the day.

WM6.1 has not been formally released yet, but the carriers, and direct sellers like HTC have the option of buying the update and releasing it to their customers. They will all require some tweaking before the ROM's are stable enough to release. There are some 'unofficial' WM6.1 ROM versions out ther now, but they all seem to have issues affecting stability.

Windows Update is a carrier option, and none in UK, as far as I know yet subscribe to it. WM6.1 won't be available via Windows Update, but when it comes will be a full ROM update.

Rest assured we will be first with news of official updates

Tim, you can use a program called bandswitch to help address this. The idea is that when you're not using 3G you drop the connection down to GPRS only. This makes a massive difference in battery life.

You can get bandswitch here:

Bandswitch V2.4.3 for HTC Polaris - xda-developers

You'll have to register to download though.

My query is about Windows Mobile 6.1. I got my orbit 2 from o2 so when and where will the 6.1 upgrade be? I've tried the auto update, but it doesn't find any updates. do we have to wait for O2? HTC? Anyone know?

Tim
Hi Tim
I think 2 days is very good for a PDA & phone - as far as i am aware, cellular phones can only go 3 days max and that is with all the power saving cranked up (tho i stand to be corrected).

Apropos WM 6.1, with the Orbit 1 02 released their own customised upgrade to WM6 shortly after other carriers did and you could download it by going to their xda web-site and putting your phones serial number in - i expect they will do something similar this time round.
