Orbit 2 and RDP
Hi there,
I am thinking about buying the XDA Orbit 2 but I couldn't find any info about using RDP and connecting the Phone to PC or Bluetooth Speaker.
Therefore here are my questions:
1.) Does anyone use successfully RDP with the Orbit 2?
2.) Does anyone tested Bluetooth Speaker with the Orbit 2?
...sorry if the answers to my questions are already mentioned somewhere but I couldn't find it.
cheers,
tanit

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
Hi Tanit, welcome to 4WM!
I've used the Orbit2 for RDP, and it's OK. Realistically you'd be better off with a VGA device if you're seriously needing RDP and/or hardware keyboard, as the software keyboard takes up valuable screen space. It does work pretty well though bearing in mind you're only getting 240x320.
I've not used Bluetooth speakers, but I use a Bluetooth stereo headset everyday and it's very good.

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
Thanks a lot for the quick answer..
I'm just wondering if I could manage to use the Orbit2 instead of an IPOD/IPhone (which has no RDP of course) for music at home..
cheers,
tanit

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
What do you mean by music at home?
If you mean using it as an mp3 player then I find these devices great (I use a Kaiser but there shouldn't be any difference).
I use a set of Motorola 820 Bluetooth headphones and the quality and sound is good along with skip fwd/back pause/play etc. There is an iissue with BT with occaisional pauses (anyone found a fix yet?).
I use it mainily at the gym or when doing the shopping.
I have even managed to use WiFi and network connection to play songs straight off my pc but its fiddly and not really worth the effort.

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
I have used an adapter and plugged my various PDA's that don't have a 3.5mm socket into a set of external speakers, and this has served quite well as an MP3 music player. I've never streamed the music over Wi-Fi though.

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
Brilliant! This is exactly what I would want to do.. extend the memory...connect external PC speakers to the Orbit2 and use it as a mp3 player. The guy in the Shop tried to persuade me that there is no such thing like an adapter for the Orbit2 to connect it to PC or any other speakers...
Any Links to order such an adapter are very much appreciated.
thanks,
tanit

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
I haven't got any links on me but I got mine from eBay for a couple of pounds and I know mobilefun.co.uk also do them.
Over the weekend, I used an adapter to plug my device into a tape adaptor to play music in my wife's car. I was also then running CoPilot SatNav so the voice instructions came through the car stereo as well!

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
I've also used my Orbit2 in the same manner as The Mailman suggests and it works pretty well. I always use it with some portable speakers when I'm out and about. With the new 16GB MicroSD cards on the way it means you can carry a big lump of music around with you easily.

Not me, and it annoys me greatly. It's the only WM6 device I've used that does it too. Have you tried it with a non O2 ROM? Does it still do it?

Your 820 headphones are Bluetooth 1.2, as are my Anycom BSH-100s, which also have dropouts. The Motorola S9s, which are Bluetooth 2, do not have dropouts on the same device playing the same tracks. So my current theory is that Bluetooth 2 is the fix.
I improved the performance of my headphones by reducing the value of HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Bluetooth\A2DP\Settings\Bi tpool to 20 from 40. The dropouts are much less frequent - one or two in half an hour, and much shorter, well under a second.

Re: Orbit 2 and RDP
I do it all the time.. It's one of the the reasons I bought my Orbit II....
Symbian simply won't stream Windows wma files...
I use a Sony MBR100.... about 25 quid and a design classic in my opinion.
It looks like a flat version of one of those old CO2 cartridges, that one used to use with a Soda Syphon.
Plugs into my home hifi..I pair it to my phone and can remote control the music from another room.....
mp3, and streamed over wifi.... then pushed back out over BT....
I think the Orbit II is the only device that will do ALL of the above and has an FM radio too.. The Sony p1i has a better radio, but it can't stream windows.. and coreplayer can't do that either, to the best of my knowledge..
