Orbit 2 Key information needed

it might just be me but i am find it very hard to find information regarding:

WAY HARDER THAN IT SHOULD BE

So can this be the thread that clears verything thing up for people...
admins can take conrol and update the main thread...

key things i am trying to undersand at the moment are:

Windows Mobile 6.1:

Gathered this so far:
The OS installation file is called a ROM...
they come in many versions...

So...
could i have a link to release which is surpported by the orbit 2
and could it be like the base one with no other extras

and if there are others could there be a clear hit as to what is different..!!!
also please only POST ROM's which are 100% for orbit 2, not some list that has be pulled off the net, thats why it is confucing as no one says HERE is the link for Mobile 6.1 for the Orbit 2

now is the reason i am finding this hard because it hasnt been fully released
or is it because it is not fully suppored, i need more clarity from all these different websites, they cover too much on other PDA and leave me very confuced, and i work in IT.

could some one also provide a link or some tips as to how to get more touch features intergraded...

HTC HOME - is this only the front menu or does it add touch features
could some one provide a link AND I DO MEAN ONE THAT IS SUPPORTED FOR THE ORBIT 2

Could someone also provide a link to the latest version, and how we can see there development of different versions.....

IPHONE LIKE BROWSING
from what ive gathered this comes in Mobile 6.1, if not what other methods are there for getting this, which again are supported on the ORBIT 2 as this thread is about the ORBIT 2 so please dont post anything whuch is basically just pulled off the net and that you cant vouch for it...

Windows Mobile 6.1 is only just coming to market and device manufacturers will release either on new devices or as ROM upgrades for existing devices. HTC have not yet issued an upgrade for the HTC Polaris/Orbit 2. So you will have to wait for an official version. There are some Hacked WM6.1 ROMS out there for Polaris devices and they work well but if you want an official one, you will have to wait

HTC Home doesn't add the touch interface, that's TouchFlo. Both can be used on your Orbit2 and TouchFlo should already be installed! Have a search on the site for the HTC Home application as O2 didn't include it in their ROM release on Orbit 2.

This one's a bit more difficult....

Opera Mobile V9 does similar to iPhone on browsing and I think Pocket IE is getting a makeover too but that's about as far as it goes at the moment - although I am sure someone will come along and correct me shortly if I am wrong!

Enjoy 4Winmobile.....

Re: Orbit 2 Key information needed

wow that was quick replay and detailed... so thanks

so now assuming its legal, could someone post links to a ROM that will work on my ORBIT 2

could some one tell me how to check if i have the latest TouchFlo, and where to get a newer release (MUST STRESS) for a ORBIT 2

just a note, i have been google-ing, and have read many forums, but they all link random things which dont indercate whether its the latest version and if its suppored, tested and used on the orbit 2...

some for the HTC Home, link, for ORBIT 2, Latest version

are there anyother piece of software which i am missing out on, assume im a newbe...
even tho i usually try and find the information myself bt am strugling with these PDA's and finding info on ORBIT 2's only, (software, versions, how to's, supported, this is the hacked rom for orbit 2)

as i will read in someone footer post that they have Orbit 2 Mobile 6.1 and i will seach for information on that and get no where as they all talk about it generally and with other PDA's so dont know which one will work on Mine... thanks very much

Re: Orbit 2 Key information needed

The ROM upgrade process although well used is not 100% guaranteed and there is a very real chance of bricking your device. One of the guarantees of the upgrade process however is that it WILL invalidate your warranty. Added to this fact the WM6.1 ROMs are all unnoficial at the moment, and in my opinion not as stable as the shipped O2 ROM (never thought I'd hear myself saying those words! ) it might well be worth waiting a month or two for the official O2 ROM upgrade. In fact probably the reason you're not hearing much about WM6.1 for the Orbit2 is that it offers little over the top of your current ROM. All that said if you want to look into it more you need to read this:

Polaris SIM Unlocker & Hard-SPL - xda-developers

....and the arguably best ROM for the Polaris is here:

Polaris.ASerg.WM61.WWE - xda-developers

Re: Orbit 2 Key information needed

I'd agree with all that!

The O2 Orbit2 and Atmos both come with the very latest WM6 ROM, which works very well indeed. I doubt there are newer versions of TouchFlo or HTC Home.

We have seen some reports that the WM6.1 ROMs for the Orbit2 are not stable, so the advice remains- continue with the excellent O2 version of WM6 and wait for their offical update.

Re: Orbit 2 Key information needed

I will third that! Been there done it and quickly returned to the O2 rom, it is fast stable and problem free which is really annoying because I do like to flash and run different roms, but Windows Mobile 6.1 cooked roms don't do it for me.

The Orbit2 is a generic WM6 Pro device, so any application designed for WM6 will run on it.

Picsel Browser is not publicly available, regardless of how good it is, as it is licensed exclusively to Samsung.

Re: Orbit 2 Key information needed

got my phone back from repair, and now its working ie, screen is not as in-sentitive (had to press screen quite hard, msn sync now works... and can now connrect to E and G and GPRS.... rather than just GPRS,

anyways was wondering a friend of mine had a ipod peice of software on his orbit 1, im assuming there is one for the orbit 2, could someone give a link, and to another software which is useful...

the reason i stress that it must be for orbit 2, is i know its a PDA, but something software was just not writen for it, and therefore could not work or damage the phone thats why i stress please send links to programs which have been known to work on THIS phone rather than me having to test a million programs to find its not compatible or that i will now need to hard reset it to get the thing to work again

thanks

Re: Orbit 2 Key information needed

Hi Seabizkit,

The Orbit II is a Windows Mobile V6.0 device. Software is rarely written for a specific device in the Windows Mobile arena, it is usually written for the platform (WM6).

Any recent software that is designated Windows Mobile 5 or later should work happily!

I can't help on the piece of ipod software you mention but if it worked on Orbit 1 it WILL work on Orbit 2....
