SBS Remote Workplace
Hi, firstly I'm new around here but it's thanks to you lot raving about the Orbit 2 I have just junked a blackberry (Thanks to O2 wanting to double the contract price just to enable BES!)
It does everything I want except when I try to use it to access an SBS "Remote Workplace" and then control servers (could just as well be PC's) I get an error about installing the activex control that's necessary for RDP to work.
Does anyone know how to get it working?
I can use RDP with port forwarding but that's not what I need in this case as I use Remote Workplace over HTTPS to support customer networks.
Thanks for any help anyone can give me.

Re: SBS Remote Workplace
Hi HRG, welcome o 4WM. I'm not sure you can use the Active X controls within the mobile browser. Unfortunately, I don't have any experience of SBS, so hopefully a response will come from someone that has!!
You could try a few of the other mobile browsers available, such as Netfront, Opera etc. Although I'm not sure if any can run active X.

Re: SBS Remote Workplace
kinda related, but perhaps not quite... I'd like to gain access to my web server! (I know Nokia have a free beta of a web server for your mobile phone), but I'd like to be able to get in to my own IIS 6.0 , server in emergencies....
Remote desktop for WM6? ...
Yes, yes, I know a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.. If I'm the best my company has got for this then god help us all....

I believe you should be able to download the activex control over WM6.
You might find the issue is with the allocation of the certificates over https as WM6 does not request intermediate certificates you'd have to install them onto the phone directly. Can you try it without certificates and see if that works?

Re: SBS Remote Workplace
Thanks for that, but I don't think it's quite what I need. I can do RDP through port forwarding but the Remote Workplace uses an activeX control to allow you to get to the site over port 4125 and HTTPS without a VPN in place. It's phenomenally handy but doesn't work without the control
As a self employed network bod it'd be amazing to remote control servers from my phone as it would mean I can actually take a holiday!
Is there a way to side load?? a control from a PC as my desktop has the control installed.

The active x control should download automatically though when you make your connection shouldn't it? What I'm suggesting is that the WM6 device is likely getting stuck at the download point because the intermediate certificates are not being automatically requested like they do when you connect with a regular PC. I'm assuming you can conncet with a regular PC and it's the windows mobile device only that's giving you the issues?

Re: SBS Remote Workplace
I got round the certificate issue by exporting it as a .der file on my desktop and importing it into the device's certificate store (that was the first snag I hit) and that works fine. Normally you get a"download active x" control prompt on a desktop but for some reason IE doesn't give me the option as it says security settings don't allow it and there don't appear to be any security options for IE on the device
I'm kinda stuck as to how to get the activex control on the device. If I can crack that I think it'll work!

Re: SBS Remote Workplace
The activex control would need to be a windows mobile specific one to work as windows mobile doesn't support full windows activex. I've had a browse around the web and I couldn't find a windows mobile specific one.
