i have just tested call waiting and it bleeps ( quietly ) 4 times then nothing even though the other person can here it ringing, what i would like to do is increase the number of bleeps....ideally to carry on until i either answer the call or choose to ignore it

As has already been stated it is not possible as far as I am aware, as it is service provider defined, and there is not a registry tweak that can be used to do this.

As well as the beeps, your device screen should also show you the call is waiting.
The only other option is to enable voicemail and send the call there so the caller can at least leave a message.
