MicroSDHC in Orbit II

I've been using a 2Gb storage card that I previously used in my Orbit, but I recently bought an 8Gb SanDisk MicroSDHC. I copied everything from the 2 to the 8Gb card and put it into the Orbit II, but although it started up OK it was behaving erratically. Trying to sync some music (in an iTunes playlist chosen to fit on the card) would only copy a few tracks then stop with an error. Running a program from the card worked for a bit, then the device froze and I had to pull the battery in order to allow a restart. After waking from sleep it would tell me a new storage card had just been inserted when no change had been made since it went to sleep.

So, AFAICT, the 'connection' to the card seemed intermittent. I re-formatted the card, copied everything across again, but the result was exactly the same.

With the 2Gb card back in, it works faultlessly again, so it's definitely that 8Gb card, but:-
Can I confirm that the Orbit II IS compatible with an 8 Gb SDHC card?
Are faulty cards a common problem?
What is the maximum size card that could be used (when available)?

Thanks.

How did you do the copy? The recommended method is put card into card reader, copy contents to PC, then put new card in reader and copy contents from PC. Avoid using ActiveSync or WMDC.

Yes, 8 Gb SHDC cards are compatible. I use one.
Faulty cards while not exactly common aren't unknown. I've had one that was dodgy from new; the retailer replaced it without question so obviously they were used to getting some returns.
Max size I don't know, but the Orbit 2 can certainly cope with what's on sale now, up to 16 Gb.

Re: MicroSDHC in Orbit II

The Orbit 2 can use up to a 32GB card without worries even though they aren't available yet, as cyclist says exchange the card for another as it definitely sounds faulty to me, especially as your other post describes the Tomtom missing sound problem.

Re: MicroSDHC in Orbit II

Should have made that clear in my original answer: definitely sounds like a faulty card so get it exchanged for another one.
