"The SIM card is missing" - problem
Hi all, I've had my Orbit 2 since late last week and it has (unsurprisingly) been fine, until this evening, when I get the message "The SIM card is missing". I've done soft and hard resets, had the SIM out three or four times, cleaned it and the contacts. Also, I cannot now connect to ActiveSync as my laptop tells me there is a problem with the USB on the device... hmmm, it's going back monday methinks. Unless- any of you wonderful peeps know what's going on here?
Another thing is a set of red numbers on the boot screen which I only noticed tonight. Connected?
Alastair

Re: "The SIM card is missing" - problem
The red numbers on the boot screen have always been there - that's perfectly normal.
Have you tried your SIM in a different handset? Faulty SIMs are rare, but not unknown. What does the handset do if you put a different SIM in?

Re: "The SIM card is missing" - problem
I hadn't actually noticed the red numbers, funny what you pick up on isn't it?
The only SIM available was an older Orange one which gave the same message. I tried a much newer Orange sim this morning though, as it occured to me that not all SIMs are created equal... and the one I tried was a few years old. Got the same message though...
The phone has had very little use since last new, as I am running down my existing phone's minutes before porting the nunmber over to the new one. I think one SMS, one call and then lots of Pocket PC stuff has been all.
I'm up in Liverpool today (eldest son singing at Cthedral) so I may drop in to an O2 store and see what they make of it (utter disinterest I should think!)
Just out of interest, what are the red code numbers on the boot screen?

Re: "The SIM card is missing" - problem
Does sound like a hardware problem- O2 shop probably not going to be useful, but worth it to confirm!
Red numbers refer to OS version, Phone radio version plus one other I can't remember

Yup, hardware issue, the SIM is fine and works in other phones, but my phone won't recognise any SIM. Any tips on getting it replaced? It was ordered from O2 online and delivered last week to me. I suppose I have to ring them on a non-O2 phone at premium rates eh?

Do you have an O2 SIM? Whack it in another phone and use it if it's free to call customer services from it.

...or not, Orange phone won't take an O2 SIM... I'm an Orange refugee after 10 years, and all because I wanted an Orbit 2. I'll email 'em and ring them from Skype in the morning

Re: "The SIM card is missing" - problem
Unfortunately, all the Orange phones I've ever had have been sim-locked to the Orange network... As you have just discovered.

Yep, while O2 and Voda tend to supply their WM devices unlocked, Orange and TMobile still lock theirs.
