Unhappy o2 xda orbit 2 internal speaker and loudspeaker problem

I have a problem with the o2 XDA orbit 2 speaker when making or receiving calls.

I cannot hear the other person when the internal speaker is on, however switching to loudspeaker seems to resolve the problem...

Obviously I don't want to be taking all my calls in loudspeaker mode all the time. Plugging in a handsfree earphone set works just fine too.

Nevertheless, I would like to be taking my calls like any other ordinary phone!

I recently purchased the phone pretty much from new (boxed/unused) - and I plugged in my o2 sim card I've just received having switched contract package, and I was able to use it just fine with all features of the phone working.

After a week of purchasing the phone, I was off on holiday to Mauritius, where I decided to switch network provider - an Emtel sim card (one of the two network providers in MU) and again, it was still working just fine.

It was at that point that, after a few days, the internal speaker just decided not to work. I had to do a hard reset too, as at one point when I turned the device off, it wouldn't get passed the boot screen.

So now I'm at the stage where it boots fine, I can still use the device fine, however the speaker problem remains! It's very frustrating - especially not being able to find any other issues like it for this particular phone and having only just purchased the phone for a full £250.

I've been searching around on the Internet, but I cannot seem to find any precise conclusion to a problem.

It continues to baffle me in frustration! Can anyone help?

Re: o2 xda orbit 2 internal speaker and loudspeaker problem

Hi zedii, welcome to 4WM. Just to get the basics out of the way and apologies if you've done this already...

Have you tried turning the volume slider up whilst in a call, just to make sure that the in-call volume isn't set too low?

How is the volume generally, i.e. in other applications, do the sounds come through loud and clear and only the phone is affected by low volume?

Hi zedii and welcome to 4WM

If you have no luck following fowljr's advice don't forget the Orbit 2 will still be under warranty whether you purchased it new or not, and you should be able to return it for an exchange device without problem.

Re: o2 xda orbit 2 speaker problem

Hey guys! Thanks for a reponse. Sorry I'm a little late in replying!

fowljr:

I've just resorted back to my trusty XDA Orbit 1 for now. I decided to give the Orbit 2 to my gf, who now has gone to MU (without me! boohoo!).

Either way, I asked her to test the slider when in the middle of a call, and from what she can tell it's not making any difference (though she's always paranoid about whether she follows the instructions I give her, correctly).

I'm pretty sure she followed it just as you explained, and the result remains the same - no sound out of the internal speaker. The microphone works just fine and I can hear her on my side. She just can't hear me .

Without the phone in my hand, I'm not sure which application I can test the sound with. Anything specific I could ask her to load that uses the internal speaker?

Boz:

That's quite promising to hear!

Though having purchased the phone on eBay, and having been told it's an unwanted upgrade, how would I go about sending the phone declaring that it is under warranty?

I mean, I'd hope I can send it directly to o2 without too many questions asked? I'd need to find out how "new" the phone is in terms of it's arrival to the previous owner. From what I can tell, I'd say it's only 2 month max, 1 month min.

Could you help advise me about what you recommend is the best procedure to exchange, if there is no other solution to this problem?

Thanks all for your help. Very much appreciated.

Zayd.

I would just give O2 a ring at customer services and tell them the phone is faulty and describe the fault, but do not mention it is secondhand so to speak, they will ask for the serial number which is under the battery on the case and explain to you what you need to do, and you should be sent a new/as new device depending how old yours actually is, by next day courier service.
