Re: what to do

Hi Rommel_1230,

Sorry to hear about your problems.

The 3 colour screen is the bootloader. You should not see that under normal operation.

I suggest backing up all data and trying a hard reset but you may need to re-flash the ROM. Occasionally you can get little issues like this if the rom hasn't flashed correctly.

The second problem is just as tricky as could be a lot of different things!

Are you getting any sort of connection?

Re: what to do

This isn't great!

I'm virtually certain WMDC under Vista will be to blame as I am having the same issues!

All my devices except my Orbit 2 are connecting and syncing fine with WMDC and Vista. I know its not a hardware problem with the Orbit 2 as its connecting fine with the same PC under XP and also my laptops both running XP.

Try connecting the Orbit 2 and going to device manager in Vista and under Network cards you should have the following listed: -

Windows Mobile Remote Adapter #n where n is the number of the adapter depending on the number of devices you have or have connected.

Right click on it and select uninstall and in the dialogue box that comes up select the option to delete the driver files too.

Now disconnect the Orbit 2.

Open WMDC and delete the partnerships and do the same on the Orbit 2.

Reboot the PC and try again this time with a different USB lead if you have one and try a different USB port on the PC too. Don't connect via a USB Hub either.

I haven't got past this stage yet as I can still sync under XP so it's not my only source of syncing.

Keep us informed....

Re: what to do

obvious I know but have MS brought out a newer version of WMDC?

I know with the TyTn it shows the actual model as a picture so I am assuming that as new models come out WMDC would need to be updated if only to include the new picture.

Re: what to do

AFAIK that picture comes from an online database using the product ID built in to the device. It's quite clever, the Orbit II and Touch Crusie actually show the correct pictures for the relevant device, despite being, internally, exactly the same.

However, this means no software update is required.

I think there was a new version of WMDC around the end of 2007. Haven't noticed any updates since. Mind you, I hardly use it now.

Re: what to do

The picture for each device is coded into the rom, and it can be changed if so wished until you need to hard reset!

Re: what to do

Boz is correct - its called sync.ico but some ROMs have it set as read only so if you flash a Polaris ROM to an Orbit 2 you will get a Polaris pic in WMDC not an Orbit 2 and it's difficult to overwrite the ROM-based file with the new one.
