Device not recognised (sort of...)

Not sure what I've done here but my Orbit 2 is not being recognised. It shows as a mobile device icon in My Computer (but no contents) and Activesync will not work.
The only thing I've added to device recently have been Winterface (since removed) and I've followed some of the posts for sync problems (to no avail so far. I hope I haven't inadvertently changed my PC settings for devices as I had a recent Trojan problem which I presumed had been resolved without incident.
I have checked it on another computer so definitely not the cable and it also doesn't show as a data connection on start screen.

I'm a bit stuck so any help as always is gratefully received,

Thanks in advance,

Lilbil

Re: Device not recognised (sort of...)

lilbil,

I strongly suspect a firewall issue.

Do you have one?

If so, Activesync and its components have probably been blocked.

Try disabling fw first to see if it works.

Keep us updated!

That's strange then!

Which os is on thc PC? you mentioned ActiveSync so i assume XP....

May have to backup device and remove all partnerships from it and PC and try again. If that fails, may need hard reset.

Re: Device not recognised (sort of...)

Have you got another cable you could try it with. Bit of a long shot but you never know.

Re: Device not recognised (sort of...)

Try using a different USB port, preferably NOT through a hub.

Try disabling advanced USB functionality on the device - Start/Settings/Connections/USB to PC and untick the box.

Keep us informed....

May be worth an uninstall and re-install of ActiveSync too (remember WM6 requires AS V4.5 or later). You probably know all this but just in case!

Re: Device not recognised (sort of...)

Sorry about delay in updates, still no resolution to this problem but I may start looking at XP and see if any settings have been changed there.
I foresee a lot of googling today

Thumbs up Re: Device not recognised (sort of...)

OK I've tracked it down to my firewall (always something simple), I don't know why it suddenly changed its protocols but I will change it accordingly.

Thanks again for advice, always welcome.
