Ubuntu Help

Ok, having decided on my next WM6 Smartphone, I get to the next problem. I do not have Windows on any computers in my house. I have a Desktop running Ubuntu Hardy Heron, a server running Ubuntu Server (also HH) and a laptop running Ubuntu Gutsy Gibbon. Am I stuffed wrt getting things like Olipro and new ROMs onto my phone or is there an ActiveSync equivalent?

Thanks again for your help guys.

Re: Ubuntu Help

You can get it connected as a USB storage device relatively simply for file copying/installing software.

Getting it to synch is a lot more fiddly and involves lots of config files and manual editing but there are a load of tutorials out there. To be honest though, it's so much easier to get a hosted exchange service that I just wouldn't bother.

Flashing ROMS, as fas as I am aware, absolutely requires you to have windows. Can you not run Windows in a vmware server (obviously requires a windows XP license)? That should do it as it supports USB connections through the virtual machine layer.

Re: Ubuntu Help

I'll have to check out the hosted Exchange servers then, but I suppose they are not free...

About the VMWare installation, I'll have to check this out re specs. as all my machines are fairly small hard disk wise, all the storage is on the server. Worth looking at though.

Thanks for the quick replies.

Stef.

Re: Ubuntu Help

mail2web does a hosted exchange for free but that lacks pop access which, presumably, you would need from Linux. The paid for version is a couple of quid a month if you pay 12 months at a time.

VMWare server isn't too bad on storage space but does require a fair bit of Ooomph!

I think pof has created a flash tool for linux but I've never used it.
