Question: Lost my Contacts after Sync.

Hi, So I lost All my Contacts after Syncronising with my (Newly re-installed) Windows Mail. and of course lost all my phone contacts. I understand that there is no Restore function (thank you Microsoft).

My Question, to prevent this from Happening in the future what is the best way to backup my Contacts?

Hi Zappy Corleone, not the happiest of circumstances to be joining us!

Their are a number of options....

Firstly a true Backup solution from the likes of Spb (Spb Backup) or Sprite (Sprite Backup). These do a complete device backup and have other advanced features such as scheduling etc.

Secondly, if you just need to backup the PIM details (Calendar, Contacts etc) you may already have a program on the device called PIM Backup under Programs. This will backup just that info. If you don't have it on the device already, we'll see if we can find you a source or you could google for it.

As to synchronising the device - you can only sync with MS Exchange Server or a full Outlook installation, not Outlook Express or Windows Mail (under Vista)....

Just as an additional bit of info, SPB Backup (and I believe Sprite as well) do allow you to just backup the PIM data or (and this comes in handy quite a lot) you can schedule a full backup to take place every night but then just restore the PIM data if you need to.

Thanks Tonybro, I didn't realize that bit about Sync. was only available for Outlook Full version & MS Exchange. I do have Sprite Backup, but unfortunatly the forces of *** had all Allied against me ( I had Just Crashed my Laptop Hard Drive two days earlier).
I have learned my lesson ---> always BACKUP on DVD's dont make one copy make two.

It's unfortunate but true about backups....

If you have them you never use them and if you don't have them you really need them!
