guide on how to apply htc rom on o2 xda orbit 2

Hi guys

I am new to this forum and have joined because I cannot find an answer to my question anywhere ( well not a clear answer at least)

so I decided to ask the guru's here .

can someone give me a detailed explanation on how to turn my xda orbit 2 into a HTC Polaris, with this I mean flashing the device with HTC rom and getting rid of the custom O2 rom.

has anyone tried this at all ?
or are we all waiting for O2 to release its latest rom?

I for one want to restore my device back to its former glory and put HTC rom on there.

I have seen explanations on XDA developers website whereby Hardspl needs to be used. but I dont find the explination clear enough.
do I realy need to use hardspl ? cause they are talking about that the device needs to be unlocked using hardspl before a rom can be applied. ?

please can someone help little old me ?

thank you

Hi polevik,

You can indeed do as you are asking BUT there are certain things you have to do to avoid making the device an expensive paperweight!

Firstly make a backup of any files on the device - get them off to your PC as any ROM flash is like a hard reset and WILL wipe the device.

HardSPL IS a must if you want to flash ROMs from different manufacturers and carriers.

All flashing activity must be done with the SIM Card and Storage Card out of the device to avoid problems.

Once you have flashed HardSPL onto the device you could then proceed to flash the ROM. O2 are due to release a WM6.1 ROM for the Orbit 2 in a couple of months, most people can't wait however - me included!

There are ROMs from HTC and then all the 'cooked' ROMs from XDA Developers' website.

My personal choice is udK's Syrius ROM for Polaris - it has the new (Diamond-based) TouchFlo system (2D, not 3D) and works well and looks stunning.

Only do this if you are confident in what you are doing.

Never flash a device through a USB hub - always direct to a port on the PC

Thank you TonyBro

where can I find the Hardspl file on this site and the ROM you have mentioned.

I know I should really look on this forum and could possibly find one.

would you be so kind enough to post the links.

in return I am going to try this and post a pdf with screenshots how it went
(if I do encounter problems I will have to seek advise first ofcourse)

thank you

We don't host the files here, that's really where XDA-Devs lead.

If you have a look here you will see the HardSPL details in the fourth topic down. Start with this and then come back once this is installed. I cannot stress how important it is to HardSPL BEFORE you try flashing a different ROM.
