Hi Zappy,

My Orbit 2 has a reasonable camera but none of HTC's device's have great cameras.

What are you comparing against?

Also which ROM are you running? Which version of the Camera App?

Re: ORBIT 2 XDA O2 Picture quality problem

I find the camera on this device to be VERY susceptible to camera shake - a fact exacerbated by the stiff action of the two-stage shutter. To help with this, I frame the photo, ensure the object is in the centre and then press the centre of the d-pad. This then causes the camera to auto-focus and take the shot very quickly, without any further intervention.

I've managed to take some pretty fantastic pictures by doing this.

As always with camera phones though, the small size of both the lense and the CMOS means low-light or indoor pictures are always going to suffer from noise.

I think light is the main factor. If you're outside and it's not too bright you can get some really nice shots but forget about serious use indoors.

Re: ORBIT 2 XDA O2 Picture quality problem

the centre selection auto-focus tip is a great one - and strongly recommended!

a few other tips for "better" (not excellent ) photos
- try lowering from 3MP to 2MP (I actually set mine to 1MP and fine it adequate enough)
- quality I put to "fine". the images then appear less grainy.

I agree with the fact that HTC devices don't appear to be targeted at the photo market. But even so, they are real poor camera sensors so sadly it's a case of tweak with the settings until you get adequate images, have as much light for the picture as you can and hope for the best!

Let us know how you get on - and if you find ideal settings I for one would love you to share them.

Re: ORBIT 2 XDA O2 Picture quality problem

My Orbit 2 is running a 'cooked' WM6.1 OS and the camera app is V6.8.

The OS is udK's Syrius ROM available from XDA-Devs. If you are comfortable in looking at a ROM flash that's always an option as you get more than just an updated Camera app.

Just remember - a ROM Flash will completely wipe the device so make a backup of everything BEFORE attempting anything. Also you MUST install HardSPL BEFORE doing any re-flash in order to avoid bricking the Orbit 2. Follow the instructions and you'll be fine, skip anything and it could be heartbreak!.
