Polaris as tethered modem

Hi again guys,

Just another question. For my work, I have to travel between Northern Ireland (UK) and Southern Ireland (ROI). I have an O2 datacard for my laptop when I am in ROI but I want to use my Orbit2 with a 3 SIM and unlimited Internet as a tethered modem when in UK coverage. Could someone just give me some idea as to how this works? I know there is an internet sharing option on the phone but what do I need to do with the laptop to get this working? Laptop running WinXP and Ubuntu dual boot, but connectivity required for WinXP, Ubuntu is probably too much to ask for.

Thanks in advance.

Stefan.

Unhappy Re: Polaris as tethered modem

Come on guys, I can't believe that nobody knows how to do this.

I have also been given a MacBook now which has Mac OSX and WinXP on it so if using OSX is easier, I'll go for that.

Please, please can anyone help?

Thanks.

Re: Polaris as tethered modem

As far as I am aware, and I haven't tried this, you start the Internet Sharing application on the PDA and then plug it into the Laptop... Not sure if Windows needs drivers for it though??

I found a video on using it here, hope this helps!!

Re: Polaris as tethered modem

No drivers required. You run the internet sharing app, select USB, then hook it up and hit connect. It's pretty straight forward. The PC should auto detect and auto connect too.

Re: Polaris as tethered modem

Thinking about it, that's with Vista, not tried it with XP but it should be pretty much the same.

Re: Polaris as tethered modem

I had it running for 4 hours on Wednesday on an XP lappy. Just plug and play....

XP picks up the network connection and goes from there.

I think I replied to this in the other thread....
