Lightbulb I-mate K-jam not booting

I have an imate kjam which has given me problems. It does not boot to Windows; it hangs on the blue screen that shows the IPL,SPL,OS.

I have over the last two months search for a solution over the net but i have not been successful.

I have performed both hard reset and soft reset several times but never successful.

I have also reloaded/updated the ROM with official ROM on the ftp of club imate but it has never worked.

I will appreciate any assistance from anyone. The current IPL is 2.16.0001 and SPL is thesame 2.16.0001. OS is 2.16.9.1 and GSM is 02.07.10

Many Thanks,
Peter

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

Hi mcrono- welcome to 4WM

Sorry you are having problems- we'll see if we can help, but we need some more info.

Did your K-Jam work for you at all before, or did you buy it in this state? If it worked before, did you try to modify the ROM at all? Did these problems occur after you tried modifying?

The reason we need to know is because the Wizard platform (which the K-Jam is based on) came in 2 distinct types- the G3 and the G4 versions. The ROMs for these are NOT compatible with each other, and a G4 device needs extreme care when upgrading.

Your IPL/SPL versions are definitely for a G4 variant, but we don't know if someone may have mistakenly tried to flash a G4 IPL onto a G3 machine! This is why it's improtant to know if it worked before, and if you tried to update it.

If it is definitely a G4 machine, then there should be ways to get it working for you, but they are quite complex!

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

Thanks very much neilm. The k-jam has actually been working then started going off itself such that you had to soft reset for it work. The battery got fully drained and that is when the problem started. It is actually a G4 and cid locked phone. I have never tried to modify rom since i am not an expert on this.

I hope this will satisfy you question.

Thanks

Peter

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

Oh dear- that sounds like bad news then

If it was working, but stopped working after a battery drain, and has remained not working despite hard and soft resets, it suggests it may be a hardware problem. When you updated the ROM with the official iMate one, did it complete properly? Have you tried leaving it connected to the wall charger for about 12 hours to give the battery a proper boost?

You could try flashing a cooked ROM, but it means using soft-SPL to get over the CID lock, and from the instructions it seems that you need a functioning device for this to work!

The flashing instructions are Here but I assume you've probably already seen that thread? If you can get as far as installing soft-SPL, then the SNN Diamond ROM for the wizard is G4 compatible.

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

I would suggest reading the Prodigy wiki here and try the suggestions you find for reviving your device.

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

Thanks boz. Let me try and let you know the outcome. Though it will be a bit difficult to do SoftSPL and HardSPL because i cannot Fully Connect to ActiveSync.

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

Thanks i had read this thread previously and the limitation remains as you have said that you need a woking device to carry out SoftSPL and HardSPL. Could the battery have had some effect on the memory?. I haven't tried putting it on the wall charger for 12 hours but i will do so and let you know.

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

You should be able to flash by putting the device into bootloader mode and connecting via USB, this way you do not need to connect via activesync. If you try and flash an original ROM you do not need Hard or Soft SPL installed.

Re: I-mate K-jam not booting

I distinctly remember killing my K-Jam a couple of years ago (accidentally left WiFi on over night and drained the battery). In the end, I took the SIM and MiniSD card out, connected it up to the proper mains charger and left it for, as neilm suggests, a long time. Eventually that little charging light did come back on it and revived itself.

But it did require the proper mains charger. Connecting to a USB port on the PC or even a third party generic charger didn't do it. It was as if it needed a kick of full-on juice to get everything back in order.

Good luck
