Re: HTC Shift coming closer

2007 or 2008?

It's turning into a bit of a saga isn't it?

As you say, it'll be out of date before it arrives...

Re: HTC Shift coming closer

First, apologies for hijacking this thread.

I must admit, when the Shift was first announced I got all weak at the knees at the idea - near full PC functionality in a handheld device .... WOW! But looking at the pics, the icons and fonts look rather small to make it useable at normal typing distance without a lot of tweaking (Vista is a desktop OS designed to be used on a large monitor after all!). Also, the permanently connected bit has me thinking; considering all the updates for Vista and other software you might be running, if this downloads automatically (As by default!), I'd soon have a rep from T-Mobile coming round and beating me half to death with a copy of their fair use policy!

I don't think I'll be chasing after this one, the WM software on the Ameo is designed for the small-screen and, with a few plug-ins, is a dream to use. I'll sacrifice that little bit (and with some of the excellent WM titles available, I suspect it is only a little bit!) of extra power in favour of a more useable device I think.

Just my opinion of course...

Re: HTC Shift coming closer

Hi Blue Griffin, we welcome other peoples views here so don't worry about hijacking threads... Interesting insights there, I'd be interested to know what software you use on the Ameo to make it viable for you!!

Re: HTC Shift coming closer

Great setup there Blue Griffin As you say, it makes the need for a full Vista mini laptop less convincing.

Re: HTC Shift coming closer

Thanks!

One thing I discovered, Pocket Artist is capable of saving files in PNG format and can create icon sets in SPB Pocket Plus (v3.2 anyway)! ....and when I have the time and inclination, I'll get around to it! lol.

Rarely take the laptop outdoors now, the Ameo basically runs my life and the laptop is just there to keep the Ameo in order! Have about 15 movies on the microdrive for those quiet moments. Not really a big fan of games.

Other software I have on the PC worth mentioning - Thememaker X and PQDVD (Palm edition, but TCPMP handles it on the PPC)

Not a problem. If a thread drifts into a different topic, then the mods will happily split the new part into a thread of its own. Thread wander is a natural part of a fertile forum which we do not wish to stifle. No flaming around here.
BTW, if you want to use a reply to an existing thread to start a new thread and keep some of the posting, then hit reply on the posting, copy the contents of the reply editor, then hit New Thread and paste the contents in.
