Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?
Heh, work are once again giving me a new phone, and I think I'll plump for a Diamond.
Granted I really want a Touch Pro but it's not out yet so I can't.
The even better thing, I get to keep my 4 month old, hardly used Tytn II (my Orbit 2 is my main phone).
So, should be able to sell them to afford the Pro when it's released.
I need new pockets.....

It would be good to hear your comments on what you think of it.

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?
I'm new to this forum but wanted to post some initial thoughts on the Diamond I received this morning. - It's a lot smaller than I imagined but feels very solid
- Worked instantly with my Vodafone SIM, no problems.
- It's the new UK ROM so Touchflo is fast enough
- Fingerprints all over the place but I don't really notice unless the screen's off
- Opera browser is superb, especially the 'move finger in circle' zoom in feature
- Synched up with Outlook fine
- Installed Pocket Informant and works fine + looks very clear on the Diamond's screen
- Haven't tested call quality via a bluetooth headset yet. That's one for tomorrow on the way to work
- Overall ? Very, very pleased. I've come from a Treo 500V which was all keyboard so I'm getting used to having an all-touchscreen device.
Any questions etc I'll do my best to answer them.
Cheers

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?
I've had the Diamond for a week, and am very disappointed with it.
The best things about it are the size, light weight and look.
Battery life is appalling. The battery goes flat with only one or two short calls, a few minutes using GPS and bluetooth. The battery gets very warm in use. I see that HTC have produced a battery with higher capacity, which will of course make the device thicker. It costs £41, and I do not want to pay that for something which should have been included with the device.
The shop I bought it from told me that I needed to make sure I had the charger on when using GPS (no good if you're not in the car!), and said that the battery life was poor. I was more or less told that the way to extend battery life is not use it!
It is very slow and unresponsive in all the functions. Functions that required only one click on my TyTnII now require two or three clicks. This combined with the slowness of the processor make it frustrating to use - I tap something and it is so slow that I think it has not responded, tap again, and find that it has responded to the second tap and done something I did not want to do.
The accelerometer is unreliable, sometimes rotating the screen when you do not want it to, and sometimes not rotating when you do want it to.
The TouchFlo is hard to control, sometimes selecting things when you want to scroll, and hard to control the speed of scroll. With some functions there is no alternative but to use the TouchFlo, making it hard to use.
Word completion works in T9, but not in ABC mode.
The virtual keyboards for touchscreen entry occupy too much of the screen and can obscure forms in the browser.
If you do not want to use your phone and are happy to look at it in a charger this could be the phone for you, otherwise look elsewhere!

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?
Hi Mike and welcome
I am sorry to hear of your problems and can assure you that your Diamond is not performing as it should in any department! It does sound as if you have a faulty device.
The average battery life should be around about a day, and it shouldn't get as hot as you describe. Performance wise it should be much, much faster than your description, everything else you desribe points to a faulty device.
Has it been like it since you first purchased it, if not have you tried a hard reset?
I would return it under warranty if you have tried the above and scream out for a new Diamond!

Re: Anyone got the new HTC Diamond yet?
I agree. While T3D is slow, and can freeze at times on the Icon bar (but screen dragging still works) the device itself is responsive. It has a fast processor (524MHz) and a good supply of RAM.
I have mine with 3G turned off, but Push Email on, and it uses about 50% battery in 24 hours. It does occasionally get warm with extended use.
GPS doesn't use a huge amount of power, but I do wonder if yours is stuck with GPS on? Unfortunately there is no idicator light so its hard to know.
If you press the HTC Close button, are there many programs running? If too many (and especially WMP) it may be slow.
