Personalised sounds
Hi all, I've been a member for a good while but normally just 'lurk' around keeping an eye on all the good stuff going on. I've just up-graded my TytnII to the TP2 on Vodafone business and quite liked it for the 1st 24 hours of testing. I'm not too impressed with the touch flo stuff and almost 'prefer' the old windows interface (I really use this for business comunications only), probably because I'm more familiar with customising it. I've got two problems that bug me with this device. The Voda spec says it has voice dialling - well I can find no voice dialling software - am I right or am I missing something basic here? Secondly, I want to use my own sound files for incoming text messages, emails etc. Now I have copied the files into what looks like the correct location (Windows/rings) but they only show up on the phone ring tab under start, settings, personal, sounds, notification. If I choose say 'phone voicemail' and scroll down the list, my own sound files are not there like they used to be on my TytnII. Any ideas anybody? Sorry for the long rambling first message!

Re: Personalised sounds
I'm not sure about Voice Control- if present it should be listed in Programs. If not, there are a few 'extracted' cab file versions around so you should be able to install it.
Event sounds for email, voicemail, SMS etc need to be placed in the main 'Windows' folder, rather than the 'Rings' subfolder. They should be as small as possible, and preferably in WAV format, but MP3's are also supported in WM6.

Re: Personalised sounds
Thanks Neil, I'd just about thought I needed to put the sounds in that folder when I got your reply. It works fine . There is definitely no voice dial softeware on board, Voda have told me to contact HTC direct and I expect they will direct me to Voda! Hey Ho! I'll just have have a hunt around for the CAB files or give someone some money. Thanks again for the response. Barry

Re: Personalised sounds
Vodafone are incorrect about contacting HTC. Carrier devices have ROMs specific to the carrier and they may or may not add or remove stuff. Missing apps are definitely the responsibility of the carrier if they advertise something they fail to provide. I'm pretty sure the standard HTC Pro 2 includes Voice Dial and Voice command.

Re: Personalised sounds
Ah- that's odd Maybe the lack of hardware buttons make VC difficult to initiate?
Thanks for checking!

I'd actually recommend putting sounds for notifications in the Application Data\Sounds directory. I don't like clogging up the windows directory with this sort of stuff. Makes it difficult to see the wood from the trees.

Thanks waveydavey, I'll try that location as well. I've found the cab files for an early version of Cyberon voice dial (V1.1 - my TyTN has V1.2) on this site, and it seems to work OK. I've assigned the send button (hold) to initiate a manual start of the programme although of course a bluetooth headset is really how it is supposed to be used. That is the only button listed for customisation however. I was hoping to use that nice 'mute' button right in the middle of the back cover, it would actually be quite convenient.
Cheers,
Barry
