Re: New HTC Touch Pro

The keyboard seems to be loved or loathed on this device. There are so many differing views on it on the net i think it's gonna be a try before you buy for sure.

On the TytnII - the keys are based on a 10 x 4 grid with only the shift occupying more than 1 grid.
On the Tytn III - Touch Pro the keys are based on a 12 x 5 grid with 3 keys occupying a double grid module (shift L, Enter and Space)
The keyboard on the Pro is overall the same length as the keyboard on the II - so each key on the pro is 5/6ths the length of the Tytn. So - they are small.
However, even with my hulking great thumbs I dont have any problems typing on the keyboard. There are extra buttons on the Pro too including SW activation keys for Mail, SMS, Internet. There are separate keys for Tab, Shift (2), Caps, Ctrl & Fn and separate numbers which also improves typing speed - so overall - it will probably be a like it or hate it - personally I like it!

Indeed - having gone from the Touch Dual to the Touch pro - these are the things I like about the Pro:
  • TouchFlo3D - looks superb and is a big improvement on TouchFlo on the Dual! Very very nice!
  • WiFi - nice to have that back at home where there is virtually no mobile signal.
  • Auto screen rotate - in photo view and web browser - turning the device results in the screen rotating.
  • Using the action button as an iPod touch pad allowing circular actions - for zooming text in Browser and emails etc.
  • Built in Opera browser.
  • Compact size - significantly smaller than the Tytn II.
  • 640 x 480 VGA Yumminy Goodness!

Shame that Auto screen rotate or zoom functions don't occur in all cases - e.g when viewing Resco or PI8 or other apps the only thing that rotates the screen is the oipening of the keyboard.

Re: New HTC Touch Pro

I'll be getting mine soon this week if it arrives otherwise it'll be next week. Comparing to my current QTEK9000 (using a 3200mAH battery) the Touch Pro has some disadvantages

1) smaller screen size which makes GPS navigation and internet browsing a bit more difficult to view

2) camera has only 1x optical zoom which is as good as no zoom

3) has problem (yet to confirm) playing music with the Samsung SBH700 stereo bluetooth headset since I only managed to test it with the engineering set at the compuetr show

4) sending SMS is not as flexible as those with a screen that tilts especially when you place it on the table to type

5) the battery power would not be impressive if you turn on the phone, GPS and using bluetooth headset/stereo headset at the same time

6) the accelerometer does not work iin ALL programs unlike the SAMSUNG Omnia

I must admit to being a little bemused why you are going for a pro when it appears to me that you believe that there are significant disadvantages to it?

Obviously a compact PPC is going to have some limitations compared to the 9000. A 3200mah battery is hardly a standard within the PPC ranges!

Well, lets say that I can live with them for it's NOT my primary communication device. When I was using my QTEK9000 as my primary communication device I'll need the 3200mAH battery when using GSM, GPS, bluetooth, GPRS, photo taking etc heavily. Oh, btw, I did not say that the disadvantages are 'significant'. I'm merely pointing out some disadvantages.

1) GPS and internet browsing - I might use GPS for some of the time but definitely not to browse internet frequently

2) The camera, like my current QTEK9000, is mainly use for taking photo shots for general reporting for my work so it's acceptable. Won't be using MMS since it costs money.

3) If the Samsung SBH700 stereo bluetooth headset is later tested to be incompatible I probably will be going for the Motorola S9-HD stereo bluetooth headset for listening to music on-the-go. FI, the Motorola S9-SD stereo bluetooth headset is not out yet.

4) My primary device for GSM and SMS communication is my GSM wrist watch phone.

5) I'm using the Touch Pro as my secondly communication device. My use would be mostly for taking photo shots for my work, as a PIM and listening to music on-the-go via a stereo bluetooth headset. I won't be using it as a phone, sparingly using it for GPS, hardly using the GPRS for remote video surveillance viewing of my house nor receiving emails because of costs, hence, I believe the battery hours given is adequate.

I can definitly recommend the S9's. I use mine every day to listen to music over the Diamond.

Re: New HTC Touch Pro

I will reserve judgement on the Touch Pro until I see it in the flesh I think.

S9's here too, they are good!

Re: New HTC Touch Pro

The biggest 2 issues with the Motorola's S9 are

1) many failures occur due to it being not sweat-proof

2) incoming call is only received on one side of the headset and NOT on both sides

Hope that the S9-HD will overcome these

I've seen and touch the S9 and I own the SAMSUNG SBH700. SBH700 is flexible and you can fold and keep it in your pocket whereas you can't do it with the S9 because it's stiffer. You just have to hang the S9 around your neck or keep it in your bag if you do not need it.

Re: New HTC Touch Pro

I've heard about the sweat issues, but mine must be a year or so old by now and they are still going very strong. I know what you're saying about the mono calls, but I've never found this to be an issue. Not even a minor annoyance.
