WLM problems?
I would really like to buy this phone but I've seen a few posts around regarding the WLM app which is on the phone. People say that after the first sync, they can't see their contacts online, they can't sync email etc etc.
Is this a widespread problem? Is the problem just with messenger? I'm really only interested in the hotmail part of the app, does that work OK & reliably? Grateful for any info on this.

Re: WLM problems?
I have not heard of any serious problems with the HTC Touch and WLM, one of my fellow mods waveydavey has got one of these and really rates it for ease of use, size etc and has not mentioned any such problems. He likes it so much he sold me his Trinity to use the touch as his main device! There is a review of the Touch in the reviews section as you may have seen. You can always try it out and if you are not happy return it within a few days.

Re: WLM problems?
That's a good idea, never thought of that. It's not that I'm unhappy exactly with the vario II, it's just that it's still quite a large 'thing' to drag around all the time. However, it is fast and (after much tweaking etc) very reliable. So, it's a really good idea to buy it and then if it is too slow for ordinary use, or WLM doesn't work properly, then return it.

Re: WLM problems?
I know what you mean about the Hermes, it can be a bit cumbersome. Since I have had the Trinity I am very impressed with the size of it. Buy and try is the best way to go if you are not sure.

Re: WLM problems?
A little word of caution here. Before anyone buys a handset with the idea that it can be returned, check out the terms and conditions for your country and from your supplier. These vary a great deal around the world. Especially check if any airtime or data contract also gets cancelled on returning the phone.

Re: WLM problems?
Thanks for the tip. Just ordered it! Expansys say that I have 21 days to return it for a full refund, and it's sim free, so no probs with contracts etc.
Now, how to wait patiently for delivery! It's not going to be easy.

Re: WLM problems?
Also another word of caution....
If you mean Windows Live Messenger by WLM then I was involved in the beta and sure at that stage it did on occasion wipe people's contacts or create duplicates etc.
Naturally these things were pretty much ironed out but as you say, there are still a few users suffering the odd glitch.
That said, its not necessarily device specific so changing device may not help in the slightest. Its an issue with the application.

Re: WLM problems?
Well, the complaints that I've read about seem to consist of:
You launch the program to set it up initially, and it does the usual stuff, asks you what you want to sync, email/contacts etc, then asks you if you want to display on today screen etc etc, and everything works fine and dandy.
contacts sync'd (ok so there are a few dups, nothing to go mad about).
hotmail sync'd - everything great so far
using the messenger part, for some people this works at first, then there appear to be no contacts online, even when they are. Also, mail then gives up syncing. For some people, they have never seen their contacts online.
This is often after the phone has been turned off, or goes off by itself.
The only solution for this seems to be to sign out altogether, delete that identity and sign on again.
However, there are only a few complaints about this - does this mean that it's working great for everyone else? Or does it mean that not many people use this function?
Some people have installed a newer version of WLM over the top, and this seems to fix everything, however, it's obviously not so good having to install quite a sizeable app onto a device which is quite tight on memory to start with.
Anyway, I will see tomorrow how this works (or not).
