New User - Trouble with BT Treo headset

Hi all,

Thanks for setting up this portal for HTC Touch.

I have just purchased the Touch in india and am totally enjoying it.

I have one problem though (actually two, but the 2nd is not so urgent)

I am trying to use a PalmOne Treo BT headset with the Touch. Although I can pair the two just fine and even make calls using the headset, at the time of receiving calls, I am unable to use the headset and the call can only be received on the handset.

I have checked all the settings possible, but cannot see anything for the same.

There is an option in the menu (after taking the call on the phone) which says send to headset, but that is too cumbersome.

Secondly, I notice that after inputting my owner information, when I go to Settings> Phone (where you change the ringtone), I see my number at the top of the screen, with 2 additional numbers!!! I wonder why

Looking forward to your replies,

Regards,
Rajat

Re: New User - Trouble with BT Treo headset

There are issues with compatibility between HTC devices and some bluetooth headsets. Have you tried turning the Bluetooth on, then going Comm Mgr - Settings - Bluetooth

Then select your BT headset, and then "set as handsfree"?

As for the phone query, you say it has two extra numbers do you mean two extra full phone numbers or 2 extra digits on the front?

I did select the set as handsfree (I guess that is why the headset can be used to make calls), but I still cannot receive calls. I know about the compatibility issues though. This headset is known to not be as useful as some of the others. I am also using a SE M600i, O2 mini and a Moto Rizr. The thing does not support even ringtones on all except the moto, where I can even listen to music on it!!

Maybe you can suggest a headset to me. I travel a lot (car) and need something that is not messy with wires.

As far as the additonal numbers go, I entered my number as +919812345678, but the phone screen shows +91981234567816. The last two are additional digits
i checked with my entry and that is correct.

BTW, have you tried the iPhone keyboard on the touch. really useful and I recommend it.

regards,
Rajat

Re: New User - Trouble with BT Treo headset

I've found that with some headsets you have to select the Handsfree mode everytime you activate the device. It's the case with my Bluetooth headphones.

Many people here rate the Plantronics headsets, I personally use the discovery 655 which I've found to be excellent.

The additional number thing is weird. Not seen that before I'm afraid.

Which IPhone keyboard are you using?

Re: New User - Trouble with BT Treo headset

Thanks, will check out the headsets you mention.

I just downloaded the keyboard available at:

iPhone-like Keyboard (freeware) - xda-developers

It really is possible to type with your fingers (and even thumbs). i consider my finger and thumbs pretty big and I can type easily.

As far as the additional digits are concerned, it really is strange and i have no clue how to remove it. There are a few of these strange things that are happening with Touch handsets in India. A friend has a set in which the date constantly changes to 31 June 2007 without doing anything in particular. Then there is one where dates of calls received constantly show a date in the future (a friend bought a phone on July 15 and it showed some calls he had received on July 28th)!!!

It might seem like the phone is really selling in India. Actually it is officially launched in India by Airtel, the biggest service provider. Also it sells for about Rupees Nineteen thousand, when the Nokia N series latest on eis for about Rupees thirty thousand. So the preference.

regards,
Rajat

Re: New User - Trouble with BT Treo headset

I use SpB Fullscreen Keyboard for my Touch. I find I can type at nearly full speed with it.

Spb Full Screen Keyboard - Pocket PC Products - Spb Software House

Re: New User - Trouble with BT Treo headset

i heard of that.

A major problem with India is that most of the times, we cannot make payments in USD as we don't have international cr cards.

Till the time I buy, I guess I will work with the FREE iPhone KP

Hi Rajat, welcome to 4WM.

The Spb keyboard is available from the 4WM store, which offers some non-credit card payment methods. Take a look here to see if any of them will work for you.
Spb Software are in Russia, so they should be well used to payment difficulties. Their website has user support forums, so you could ask there if the 4WM store doesn't work for you.

If you don't mind answering a slightly personal question, how do you manage to pay for things over the internet normally?

Dont purchase much on the internet anyway. Max is train tickets. thats it.

But purchases from Russia require an international credit card, right? Do not have that!!

Re: New User - Trouble with BT Treo headset

I'm not sure what an 'international' credit card as opposed to any other sort is. All the credit cards available in UK can be used pretty much anywhere in the world. Does India have credit card companies that are not part of the Visa/Mastercard/American Express networks?
