MDA Touch 256Mb

Well after playing with the T-Mobile version of the Touch Enhanced edition for the morning now, I've noted the following differences (Apart from the increase in RAM/ROM):

The ROM Version is 2.81.11.1 WWE
The ROM date is 29 Aug 2007
The radio version hasn't changed
The Ext_ROM version is now 2.81.110.101
The O/S version hasn't changed.
There are no new SIPs or apps with the new device (Not even a new Home screen!).

The device is snappy in operation and has plenty of space now (As you might expect given that the space is the same as the Kaiser!). I'll benchmark the devices over the weekend to see what difference the memory increase makes in terms of raw stats as I have to send the original Touch back once I get the return back (That'll be next week then!).

I've installed the extracted HTC apps from the usual place and now have the Touch the way it was supposed to be!

[Edit]After conducting some benchmarks using the SPB Benchmarking tool with the MDA Touch (128Mb and 256Mb versions) and the Kaiser (v1615 version) I arrived at the results shown below.

The most surprising is that in 7 of the 28 tests, the Kaiser came last. Normally in memory or graphic-related tests (Despite the Kaiser having the better Graphics index!).

The 256Mb version was faster than the 128Mb version in 18 tests, relating more to CPU, reading single files or writing multiple files and general real world usability tests.

The 128Mb version out-performed the 256Mb version in 8 tests, more related to the smaller size of storage to search IMHO. The results pretty much match up with my experiences, in that the 256Mb version is faster, more powerful and responsive and appears to have better battery life so far than the 128Mb version.

So, there you have it, what do you think?

You realise that if the stats are too good, I will have to get this device don't you?
It will be all your fault!

I think that's fair marisa4755... I tend to use that approach for new device purchasing.

Re: MDA Touch 256Mb

From a quick look on the T-Mobile site it doesn't appear to have wireless connectivity which would be a big negative and the reason why I got the HTC Touch rather than waiting for the Touch Dual.

Re: MDA Touch 256Mb

I think this appears to be an upgraded Touch, so hopefully it would have retained the Wi-Fi that the touch dual lost.

Re: MDA Touch 256Mb

definitely has wireless as this is what I'm using to post this message. the difference in experience is marked so far. I have been able to install and run CPL 6 which I couldn't before. and there's no lag that you convince yourself is the price of having good battery life when your run the touch cube or standard apps. amazing!

TBH, the new Touch has more promise for the future and if more useful in terms of the speed of use for me. I wouldn't say it's that much of a usability jump though to justify spending money on a new one though!
