Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Elly - Windows Event Log

From the Start Button select Settings Then Control Panel
In the Control Panel select Adminstrative Tools and then one of the options is Event Viewer.

You probably want the Application Log.
With the App Log showing start an new sync and see if any error messages are showing.
Then do the same with the System log.

Its a long shot but sometimes it will show the AS errors in the app log and will give us something to work on.

I'm afraid I am not back at work until Wed so will not have access to a XP pc with AS on it until then.

Hi
In WinXP when you connect your WM device a lan connection is created in network coections. The same is by default blocked by your firewall, treating it as internet connection> In your firewall, change it to TRUSTED connection and your sync shall work fine.

Bye

You have a genuine puzzler here, which has got a lot of us stumped!

Don't ever worry about asking any question you need answering- and we never consider anyone a pest for asking

You have been able to give us a lot of relevant and informed information about your problem, and the result sof steps taken to0 rectify it, albeit to no avail at present

One more thing to try- (apologies if this is too obvious!)- on the Touch, open Contacts, then check Menu/View By is set to Name; now Menu/Filter and check that 'All Contacts' is selected.

@dineshh: Welcome to 4WM- thanks for that advice- hopefully it may work. But would a firewall issue stop only some contacts synchronising, while allowing others through?

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Do the contacts that won't sync have anything in the note area?

Some people have found that this happens, with some contacts that have notes, and they could remedy this by opening the notes area, and making a slight change, eg press return after the last full stop, or add a comma and save, etc etc and that the contact would then sync.

Other people have found that if there is a photo included in the contact VIA THE PC OUTLOOK, that these contacts won't sync. If this is the case, remove the photo from PC outlook, and then after sync, reinstate it via the device.

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

hello Again

Neil,

I have checked the things you said to check the view and sort by and they were set as you suggested.

Marisa,

Some of the contacts that will not sync have notes but others that will not sync do not have notes! None of my contacts have pictures.

I have some info from HTC website

it says you have to enable the correct com/USB port. 4.

HTC: Support: FAQ: HTC Touch Dual

Does this mean I MUST have com4 as the port but on the device, the PC or both? I have asked HTC to clarify this as I have tried all of their other suggestions and I CANNOT see how to get activesync to let me assign this port either on the deivce or on the PC.

HTC say ask microsoft but microsoft say ask HTC as it is preinstalled software!

(Interestingly HTC says you can use different versions of activesync but when you install an older version and try to connect to the device, the device says it needs version 4.5)

I tried this at about 4am. I unistalled activesync from my PC, hard reset the phone (again!) installed activesync version 4 and got a message on the device when I tried to connect saying I had to use version 4.5.

So I unistalled version 4 installed version 4.5 and had the same problem.

Activesync help says you can choose the com port during first connection but it do not let me do this.

I wonder if there is any way to reinstall activesync on my device? a long shot but then I am well into long shots now!!

thank you all for your help and advice.

Elly

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Elly
The fact that some contacts sync and others don't would suggest that this is not a problem with a com port, or activesync, but that this is a problem with certain contacts themselves.

To test this input a new "test" contact from the PC and see if this syncs, and also one from the device, and see if that syncs. If they do, then you have no problems with com ports or activesync itself. The problem lies within the contacts that won't sync. It's just a question of finding out where. The notes file, and the photos are the most common causes.

Some people have just recreated the 'non syncing' contacts in order to get that first full sync.

Another long shot, but on your device try going to start>settings>connections>USB to PC and untick the box "enable advanced network functionality" and try again to sync.
