Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

If you're sure it's not an issue then PM them to me. I have a Touch and can try it directly. One thing I'm wondering about, do you have photos and that in your contacts? 2250 is a lot of contacts and the Touch has a relatively small memory footprint.

Have you tried a hard reset? If I try a sync then I'll have to hard reset my device first, then import the contacts onto a fresh machine build and then
import them.

Also, you mention your desktop and your laptop. Have you tried setting up the connection on both devices? Local sync does not work very well at all when used with multiple machines. You can only sync to one at a time.

I will pm them after this reply.

No photos in my contacts but some do have notes.

I have done a hard reset the one where it wipes everything and when it restarts I have to realign the screen etc.

I have not been anywhere near my desktop with this phone!! The desktop is far more improtant than the laptop and being cautious, I tend to try things on my laptop (after backing up the laptop onto a storage device).

A: there is less on the laptop.
B: fewer contacts.
C: if I had to restore the laptop from scratch its not such a major problem as restoring the desktop would be.
D: I figured if I could set it up on the laptop then I would add the contacts from the laptop to the desktop, then set it up on the desktop only and use it on desktop only after this.

thanks Elly

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

250 contacts is reasonable for a mobile device. 2000 would be a problem, especially on the Touch.

My PIM file has about 180 contacts and 200 Appointments, and this uses 2MB of ROM to store. With any more than twice this amount, you will find the device slows, and opening the Contacts application will take a long time.

With regard to the fact that nothing now synchronises, this suggests the ActiveSync log file has become totally confused.

Removing Activesync is not simply a question of uninstalling via the PC's control panel- as usualy with MS stuff, it leaves a large amount of residual data including the sync history on the PC. Once AS is uninstalled, it is necessary to use Windows File Explorer and locate the Program Files/Microsoft ActiveSync folder, then physically delete this folder. You should then go back to the Touch, select ActieSync, and then Menu/Options. There should be an entry for Windows PC, and if there have been some problems, possibly a Windows PC 2. Tap each of these headings in turn and select 'Delete' from the lower menu, to remove all vestiges of a Sync history.

Now reinstall ActiveSync 4.5 on the PC, and go through the process of creating a partnership again. This may only get back those items that originally synced, but it would be some progress!

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Elly,

I've not had a chance to import the contacts as yet, but I did have a quick look through. Of particular note was your firstname field in that I noticed there are many occurrences of the firstname being an apostrophe and a number. I exported my own contacts and there was no such occurrence. Where the field was blank it was just blank. It's possible excel put the apostrophe in but I'm wondering if maybe the combination of apostrophe and number are illegal characters for the firstname field? This would explain why only certain contacts synced. It might be worth blanking out the number occurences and then trying an import and sync?

Does that mean you can now sync some of the contacts but not all of them? Did you try editing the contacts in the spreadsheet as I suggested?

Hi

I have just borrowed my Daughters Orange spv M2000 and synced from my laptop with it. Although on my laptop I have activesync 4.5 I got the options you used to get in earlier versions. EG did I want to sync destop to device or device to desktop?

ALL contacts and Appointments synced perfectly with the SPV. Only difference I can see between this and HTC is that Orange runs windows 2003 ce and HTC is windows mobile 6.

After this I tired syncing the HTC again and it went back to no options and synced nothing?

Even more confused than ever now I am!

Will try killing partnerships with both devices then syncing orange from device to desktop then kill this partnership. set up new partnership with HTC and see if it will sync?

Will let you know.

Elly

Well I triedd this even allowed the orange to put duplicates onto the laptop.
then when I synced with the HTC it added one contact only.

Even a new contact I added was not sent.

Off to try and clean up the contacts in excel to see if that works.

Elly

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Hmmm.... I do think there's something in your contacts themselves that has been causing the half can half can't issue, but I fear until we get that back to that point that making changes to the contacts themselves might be a wasted effort. I know it's a real pain in the rear but I'd be tempted to uninstall Office and Activesync. Remove your Outlook mail profile (after exporting everything to PST first) then do a hard reset on the Touch. That way you're essentially starting from scratch.
