I exported my own contacts and there was no such occurrence. Where the field was blank it was just blank. It's possible excel put the apostrophe in but I'm wondering if maybe the combination of apostrophe and number are illegal characters for the firstname field? This would explain why only certain contacts synced. It might be worth blanking out the number occurences and then trying an import and sync?

Hi Again

I tired cleaning up about 10 and making the first name text then importing into outlook then syncing but none of them appeared on the HTC.

thanks Elly

I know it's a real pain in the rear but I'd be tempted to uninstall Office and Activesync. Remove your Outlook mail profile (after exporting everything to PST first) then do a hard reset on the Touch. That way you're essentially starting from scratch.
OK Will take a ceffeine break then try this suggestion.

Thank you

Ok, I'll try a hard reset and import with your contacts. It might have to be tomorrow though now as I'm out tonight.

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Hello EllyReid,

Boy you're having difficulties aren't you!

Welcome to 4WM!

On ActiveSync on the PC can you please (with no device connected) select FILE > DELETE MOBILE DEVICE.

Then select FILE> Mobile Device (keep deleting all the profiles until you have no more devices left!)

Before you connect the device to the PC, can you make sure that ActiveSync screen is showing a greyed out box, with "Not connected" in small bold letters, and aboce that (looking greyed out) it says "No partnerships".

Now re-connect the device the the PC. Let it do it's whirly-gig bit for a moment.
Eventually when the prompt for retrieving settings has finished, you'll see it asking you to set up.
Just keep hitting NEXT except untick NOTES - you can put them back later if you want - they just tend to cause me issues with first connection to Outlook (you can change all the rest later!)

Cross your fingers...

Now - if it comes back as the tick box in contacts again, can you see if it has returned any errors?
Try hitting SYNC button again, that usually lets it kick through the contacts.

Now - how are you doing with all that? (and I am so sorry to make you repeat it all again, but best to try covering all the basics from scratch sometimes, Windows [Mobile & PC] is very tempremental!)

Good luck and look forward to seeing how you get on.

Well I smiled for the first time today. A god to help me out

Right I did all you said and here is the result:

Did not get any error messages on the PC or device.

It copied no contacts, some appointments, some email, no tasks (but then i did not have any of these), no favourites but again I did not have any of these and I am not sure about files. Sorry I am new to this and not sure what files get synced?

Thanks Elly

it says on pc it is syncing and I get ticks

on the device it say synchronising looking for changes then connected.

I found a folder on my laptop called WM_Ellen_REID my documents I am assuming this is where the snyced files go as I did not have it before? It contains several other folders.

thanks Elly

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Yes- that folder on the PC is the Synchronised Fles folder. This reflects the contents of the My Documents folder in the main memory of the Touch. Any files in either location will be copied, and if necessary, converted to the correct format.

Back to your main issue, there are some intriging facts which defy rational explanation!

Some of your contacts and Appintments will not copy to the Touch

This is despite a whole set of revamping everything possible and fresh installs f all the relevant apps

A factory reset of the Touch failed to cure things

Exporting/reimporting Outlook data failed to cure the problem

Removing/remaking partnerships fails to solve the issue

Newly created items seem to sync OK.

The same Outlook data syncs to your daughters SPV M2000 without any problem

Right up to that last point, I would have said this looks like a data error within Outlook, but the fact that this same data syncs to a WM2003 device perfectly may belie that opinion.

That leaves the unlikely possibility that this could be a hardware fault. I've been around these devices for years and have to say I haven't encountered any hardware fault that could account for this, except on a device last year where a faulty USB cable caused errors in syncing. The next step would be to try & obtain another Touch (beg, steal, borrow etc ) and see if it exhibits the same problem? Unlikely I know but.....
