Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Hello everyone

I have done as asked by HTC and get the same result as before. basically they asked me to hard reset the device wipe activesync. OL 2007 and my antivirus software. Disalbe ALL third party applications set up a new partnership and sync.

I did all this and get the same results as before some stuff goes onto the device and some does not.

So I will go back to them and see what they say. Obviously I will let you know how I get on. And of course I shall direct them to your very useful forum.

Thanks again

Elly

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Latest from HTC.

They now say to send it to the repair centre to get the rom flashed as they cannot see what the problem is and have done all they can over the phone. They did, however say the repiar will be free of charge and will be expeditited within 5 days.

However before I do that I have an upgrade disk for my laptop to change from XP to vista so am going to do that and see if I can get it to sync with the vista software.

Obviously changing to vista is a big job so it will be next week before I can report and more progress but will keep you all posted and thanks for your help.

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

I would suggest going ahaead with the HTC repair anyway.

Vista, out of the box, has had major problems connecting to some devices. You have to download and install Windows Mobile Device Centre V6.1 to connect. My Ameo always connects first time, no bother, but my P3600 is still unrelaibe, even with all the fixes.

I'd also look carefully at the methods of updating to Vista. If you can save your existing documents easily, I'd suggest a full clean instalation. If you have a valid OS already, Vista will offer an Upgrade, which is supposed to retain most of yuor application settings and retains your existing aplications and files without reinstallation, but when I used this method on my Dell laptp I encountered a lot of errors in the subsequent 2 months, so I ventually bit the bullet and did a full reformat/install which has been much more reliable.

Also, be aware that there are some XP programs that simply won't work on Vista. (Quicken accouting being one of them)

I agree with Neil. From a Windows Mobile device perspective Vista can take you to a whole new world of pain. If you going to try anything laptop based I'd try a fresh XP install. In fact if you have the time and the know how I'd try that before I sent my device to HTC for 5 days.

Re: HTC touch, WM6 activesync 4.5 outlook 2003 windows XP and PROBLEM!!

Hi Again

I have put off installing vista because of all the problems I hear about it and am very reluctant to do it now.

I would have / will do as you suggest and do a full installation and not just the express upgrade. As I need to do a lot of prep for it, like making sure I have backed up my data and checked I can use my other software or got the upgrades, I am proceeding very cautiously.

It seems though that if I am back to a blank hard drive ready for an install I could do as Dave suggests and install XP and try that first. Becasue frankly I would rather stay with XP until microsoft force us to use vista by withdrawing support for XP.

So here is my plan, will carry on prepping for a full install of AN operating system. Then perhaps by end of next week will install XP, activesync and ol 2007 then try that.

If thats no good will send device to HTC and probably keep XP going a while longer. Because if they flash the rom, they assure me it should work with XP.

And somewhere amongst that lot I have to get some last minute gifts and did I hear it is Christmas on Tuesday

My thanks again and if the rumour is right about Xmas have a good one and I will report again next week.

Elly

At least Microsoft have just released XP Service Pack 3, so hopefully still plenty of life left in the beast!

Christmas next Tuesday??? Who on earth told you that

PC Pro is reporting that RC1 is now available on Microsoft's download site. It is a hefty 336MB though.

Final version due in 'first half' of 2008, and anticipated to be around 70MB, so maybe a lot of error checking code in the RC version?

Hi Everyone hope you all had a good Christmas.

I can report success at last but at a price!

I reformatted the hard drive (after spending four days prepping for this) reinstalled windows xp pro, reinstalled Office 2003 and reinstalled activesync.

I hard reset the device, synced it and everything now works fine.

So gradually I am reinstalling internet, anti virus software, other programmes etc and so far all is well with syncing the device with the computer and vice versa.

Even pictures in contacts and notes is working.

It is frustrating not to be able to narrow it down as a total rebuild is a drastic measure in order to get activesync working, but at least we now know that if you have to do this it does work.

Thank you all for the help you have given me.

best wishes for a prosperous, happy and healthy 2008.

Elly
