Playing DivX videos
Hello, I have been using the DivX Mobile player to play DivXs but I was wondering if there are any better alternatives. WMP doesn't appear to support DivX and I don't know if you can install extra codecs like you can in Windows on the desktop.
The reason I am looking for a different player is that it seems to lose synchronisation between the video and the audio, with the video getting slower and slower. Now I am aware that a mobile device has a lot of work to do decoding DivX and I am impressed that it works at all, but it should start to skip frames once it loses sync, which DivX Mobile does not appear to do.
So any DivX playing alternatives anyone can recommend?

Re: Playing DivX videos
Hi, you could try TCPMP v0.81 which we have on this site, and best of all it is free, you can find it here. (!! (UPDATED) TCPMP v0.81 unofficial hybrid media player + all codecs here !!) I hope that helps you.

Re: Playing DivX videos
TCPMP and CorePlayer are boith good for DIVX, but make sure the frame rate & resolution is relatively low; I still see the Video/Audio sync problem in CorePlayer on my VGA device unless I turn the resolution down when transcoding videos.

Re: Playing DivX videos
Well I was attempting to watch them without transcoding. When I do transcode it plays fine in everything of course because the files require much less CPU power to decode, but DivX Mobile could *almost* cope with the files straight off my PC, it just lost sync a little bit. This was obviously interesting to me as it saved having to transcode when you just want to play a random video without planning it in advance.
TCPMP can't handle the full size files at all, it just plays a frame every so often and haven't tried CorePlayer. As it turns out, I can transcode a video using PocketDivXEncoder pretty quickly so I'll just have to use that, but it is so nearly there!

Re: Playing DivX videos
Hi thedaddyy and welcome
Looking at your thumbnails I would say the file size is too large at 700MB, and the screen size of your Elf is only 240x320, the screen resolution you are showing is much bigger than that. The Elf runs a 200mhz processor so will struggle with video clips anyway, so it needs to be right.
I suggest you install TCPMP media player and shrink any video files down to the correct size with DivX encoder, you can find the download and instructions for both in this thread here, (!! (UPDATED) TCPMP v0.81 unofficial hybrid media player + all codecs here !!) please let us know how you get on.

Boz works well thx m8........
Re-encoded the file:
Adjusted the video size down to 320X240
Adjusted the video & sound quality to the highest settings
Ended up with half the file size plays @ full screen and perfect quality!!!
Thx again.......

Re: Playing DivX videos
I am pleased for you, it doesn't take that long to shrink them down either does it!
