HTC TOUCH DUAL how to export contacts to Outlook?

Hi
I have HTC Touch Dual. I regularly sync with my laptop with only calender and tasks sync.
I have not opted for contacts sync.
Reason?
I have more than 1000 contacts in Outlook those I do not want to transfer on my phone.
But I want to transfer my phones contact to outlook (as a back up)
I think I can not do it with Sync becasue in that case my Outlook contact will get transferred to phone.
Do I have a way to do it?
I need to hard reset my phone and before that I want to back up my contacts.
For some reason I can not copy phone contacts to SIM card.
Please help.

Hi Anet- welcome to 4WM

First, the reason you can't copy your phone contacts to the SIM card is because phone contacts hold a lot more information than the SIM is capable of. You may be able to copy basic info such as name and one number, and many SIM cards do allow more, but most don't.

An easier way out of your situation is to use a small free program that backs up your Contacts, Calendars, SMS and Emails to a backup file you can store on your phone memory card or transfer to the PC for storage, then transfer back after the hard reset.

It is called PIMBackup by Dotfred. You can select what to backup or restore.

Re: HTC TOUCH DUAL how to export contacts to Outlook?

Hi
Thank you very much for the reply.
Today my problem is my 'touch screen' is not working at all. That gives me limited access to menus thro 2 buttons only.
So I can not install any new programs. Before the cell is given to repair I want to copy atleast the contacts to some place.
My activesync is working & my phone is getting connected to PC.
I am able to make and receive phones too.

Re: HTC TOUCH DUAL how to export contacts to Outlook?

OK- a problem, but there is a way around it!

Download this program to your PC- EveryWAN Remote. Choose the 'Personal Edition' from the web page, fill in the registration page and they will immediately send a link to the download. Download and install this on the PC, then connect your phone using ActiveSync.

Now run EveryWAN and it will ask if you want to install it on the phone- which it will do without any user input, so works with a broken screen. Once connected you see your phone on your PCs screen from where you can do anything you would normally do using the mouse and keyboard. Using this you can install and run PIMBackup to save your contacts!

Other possibilities:

Microsoft MyPhone can backup your phone contacts since you are not using Outlook to sync them.
...or...
Create a new folder in Outlook to hold contacts. Move existing Outlook contacts to that folder, then sync phone with original contacts folder. You can maintain more than 1 contacts folder in Outlook, have all contacts appear in Outlook Address Book, but only sync 1 folder with phone.
