Re: Asus Eee Pc

Looks good - strange to see a non-widescreen laptop shape.

Re: Asus Eee Pc

That is nice, I do like the spec for the money and good for schoolkids too. Haven't got a clue on the modem though!

Re: Asus Eee Pc

Well i've got xp sp3 on the eeepc after a few minor hiccups.

I have installed some essentials on top of it:-

Wmp11
WLM
Tune up utilities
Winrar
AVG 8 free

And all the usual flash players etc..

Still got to install a pdf reader and some anti spyware but am too jaded for now.

Got around 1gb of the 4gb hard drive left and am going to leave it that way.

I have discovered a way to get office to run from a usb stick too so i'm a happy bunny.

It's not quite as quick as the linux distro that was pre installed but the loss in speed, for me, is outweighed easily by being able to use internet sharing with the niki coupled with the fact i'm still learning how to use linux properly.

Boots up to desktop in around a minute.

The real icing on the cake is the driver disk that comes with the eeepc containing all the xp drivers. Everything works perfectly.

Getting 3 hours battery on average (using wifi) too.

Will be interesting to see if it starts to slow up over the coming days but i think it will be fine.

So my initial thoughts are that i'm well impressed and think for value for money this is one cool little laptop.

Re: Asus Eee Pc

Yep more RAM may well be the key and give a better turn of speed too!

Re: Asus Eee Pc

I've been well tempted by these for a good while now. What's the battery life like?

Re: Asus Eee Pc

I'm now actually "hoping" my wife's laptop dies so I have a decent excuse to get one. I'm then hoping she won't get on with it so we have to buy her a standard laptop and I get the Eee PC!

Fingers crossed!

Re: Asus Eee Pc

Battery is just under 3 hours with wifi on.

At work i use my maxtor 250gb hard drive with it and it works well with it too.

After checking out crucial 2gb ram is only about £30 quid so i'll order some in a bit.

As mentioned in a previous post by, Hawkeye i think, he suggested using the screen at 800x600 resolution and what a difference that makes.

Basically the desktop ends up not fitting the screen vertically but you can pan up and down using the mouse when it reaches the top or bottom of the screen. Again the asus xp support disc has this on it but of course you can leave it in standard 800x480 if you want (some apps don't display correctly like this but it takes seconds to switch between the two).

The more i use it the more impressed. Sleep mode even works and by that when you wake it up everything works still.
