Wifi signal strength problems

Hi,

Don’t know if anyone will be able to help, but all replies are much appreciated.

I have a 2Wire 1800 wireless router which I set up about 2 years ago. Recently the signal strength that I get with my eeepc laptop and my Orbit 2 has dropped dramatically, to the point that it is unusable. Before this I have always had an excellent signal. I also have a windows xp desktop which connects wirelessly and doesn’t appear to be experiencing the same problem. The only change that I am aware of is I recently connected my Nintendo wii to the network.

I have googled the problem and tried changing the channel and adjusting the router position but to no avail.

If anyone has any ideas please reply.

Thanks.

Re: Wifi signal strength problems

Could the Wii and the phone be using the same IP address? Are your IP's assigned by DHCP?

Yes IP's are assigned by DHCP. There is a page which shows each device in the network and their IP address and each one is different.

Re: Wifi signal strength problems

if you turn OFF the Wii then reboot the router, does this seem to resolve your issue?

No, tried that.

Going to try and reset the router tonight and add each device again.

Thanks.

Re: Wifi signal strength problems

The signal strength of a wireless connection is one of the most important factors that has to be considered. If the signal strength is to low it can happen that the connection cannot be established at all or that it will fail while being connected. This can lead to all kinds of problems such as data loss or that the user has to enter data again because of the interrupted connection.
