Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
Well, the bike is now all mine and back home. It is absolutely mint, and never been in the wet was owned by a 64 year old with every piece of paperwork you could have, and some!
It is nice to see the bikes you own, I am glad I opened this thread.
@ todd737,
If I am ever over that way I will take you up on that for sure!
@ Neil,
You did have a nice bike history, I am impressed, and even more impressed by your father!
@ dave,
I somehow guessed you may have ridden bikes at some point, nice classic Porsche, which model is it?

Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
She certainly is a sweet looking motor Boz. It's quality when you find one that you know has been looked after too. I remember my CBR was bought off a guy in his 50's, an he'd treated with cotton wool. Condition was awesome.
The Porsche is a 911 Carrera 3.2 Targa from '84. It's just the car I always wanted when I was a boy. With the wife having a standard family saloon and my limited mileage quota it's ideal.

Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
Yes I know what you mean, my partner Mel has a Peugeot 406 which is the family runaround and stays outside in all weathers.......... and in my garage I have a near mint Sierra 4X4 v6 2.8 hatchback that is highly tuned with lowered adjustable suspension, alloys etc, that hardly sees daylight! So now I have the best of both worlds with the bike and the car.

Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
I do drive the Porsche, but only to enjoy it. I find so little pleasure these days in generally driving from A-B (I'd rather cycle) with the roads so congested and with so many idiots about. Driving the Porsche on a nice day though just makes a journey special. It's magical......
I used to get the same pleasure from riding a (motor)bike too. Unfortunately those were days where I was young and fearless and I'd I think nothing of riding in just a pair of shorts and a tin lid. Now I've grown half a brain I just find leathers and full face helmets take a lot of the enjoyment of being free away. At least when I cycle I don't need leathers and a helmet.

Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
It is still nice to have the wind rushing past, and the adrenalin buzz. As you say you wouldn't catch me riding my new machine in open toe sandals and a World War II German infantry helmet!

Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
Only ever had 1 "bike" - a Honda SS50, well I was 17/18 at the time. When my dad left the army in Tidworth they would not ship it so I had to ride it all the way to Huddersfield and as it was a moped no motorways either.
Thankfully it was August 1976 - for those not around then or with dim memories that was the Heatwave year - and it was a long but pleasant drive.
Only one embarrssing part was going past donnington during a Bike w/e - I got quite a few strange looks!.
Never fancied going back to bikes since but both my bros have them including a Triumph Rocket III - at 2.3lts its almost the same size as my car.

Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
I remember the Honda SS50, and the scorching summer of '76, I used to have a purple Yamaha FS1E and loved it. I have had my new bike for a week now and have only ridden it once when I purchased it, due to the weather, I am not going out in the rain I am past that!

Re: Any keen motorcyclists here?
I have a suggestion that can fix that problem - two extra wheels and a roof.
I have ridden a bike a couple of times since ( honest guv you must have seen my brother not me! ) and enjoyed it but I prefer my comfort and music - plus its difficult to light a cig while riding a bike.
