DVD Authoring Software

Looking for any recommendations for software that will allow me to take TV video recordings from DVD-RAM discs, edit them a bit and then write them to a DVD-R/RW format disc? This need has been prompted simply because I have recently purchased a DVD recorder for the first time and am now realising the drawbacks of recording on to my preferred media for this machine - DVD-RAM discs... The machine does not have on-board hard-drive but in all other respects representated better value for money. RAM discs allow me some of the flexibility of recording to hard-drive in the sense that I can edit the disc in the machine itself to some degree and also watch a recording on the disc while machine is recording another program to the SAME disc - so quite clever! Unfortunately I come unstuck when want to watch the recording on another DVD player - in a nutshell - not possible for most other machines.
Is there any particular authoring software out there that anyone might recommend? Am not looking for anything too sophisticated - just ability to edit out adverts etc, create DVD menu structure that is recognised by standard DVD players.

Re: DVD Authoring Software

Not cheap at $75 but VideoReDo TV Suite does exactly what you need. I've used the original version for a coiple of years and it is excellent, and the reauthoring is very quick.

I'm sure there are cheaper alternatives if needed.

Re: DVD Authoring Software

Thanks - taking a look now. Initial thoughts are that the spec does not seem to mention DVD-RAM which produce "VRO" file types - will study the spec closer...

Re: DVD Authoring Software

If you look at the Full Comparison chart link, it does say DVD-RAM compatible, but it may be dependent on the exact file type your recorder uses.

Re: DVD Authoring Software

In terms of DVD authoring, I use the software that comes as part of Windows Vista. It's really very good for "Free" software. Not sure about converting DVD-RAM files though. Do Panasonic do anything? They are the big boys when it comes to the DVD-RAM format aren't they?

Re: DVD Authoring Software

Have already emailed Panasonic - waiting to hear from them - after all, it is because of the limitations of their recordable media that I need the software in the first place.

Re: DVD Authoring Software

I've used NeroVision before simply because it came with my Nero suite and is super easy to use to setup menus etc. Not sure about the DVD-RAM side of things though.
